Great lens but added costs re-overseas purchase - High.
I purchased this lens for use with my MFT camera and it works great, but I was unaware that the camera auto focus system did not operate with this lens. The quality if really good and even though focus has to be totally manual I am still happy with the lens.

D Vario-Elmarit 14-50 mm f/2.8-3.5 Asph. Mega O.I.S.
Originally posted 2007-09-03 on Optyczne.pl In June 2006 was launched the first reflex digital camera from Panasonic, marked with the DMC L1 symbol. The company implemented an interesting strategy because they decided to sell it as an inseparable set with the Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14-50 mm f/2.8-3.5...
Cons:
- too high chromatic aberration at 14 mm and at 50 mm and maximum relative aperture

Panasonic 14-50mm f/2.8-3.5 ASPH MEGA OIS Leica D VARIO-ELMARIT review by J-Rod85
This lens in one of the main reasons why I bought a L1. I wanted to start with a bright zoom and this lens does not disappoint. This lens delivers sharp results and it is built very well. The main drawbacks are its compatibility and practicality with the entire Four-Thirds system.
Pros:
- Superb construction
- aperture ring on LUMIX models
- Sharp
- Bright
Cons:
- Heavy
- Expensive
- aperture ring won't work on Olympus

Panasonic 14-50mm f/2.8-3.5 ASPH MEGA OIS LEICA D VARIO-ELMARIT
A very good lens optically. Sharp, vibrant colors. Mega OIS works as advertised, though I'd rather use the IS on the E-3 because the OIS in the lens only provides 2 stops. Its plasticky exterior is a little disappointing considering its price tag and the weather proofing offered by Zuiko...
Pros:
- relatively fast aperture (f2.8-3.5)
- sharp accurate focussing
Cons:
- flimsy plastic lens hood and cover
- expensive
- no weatherproofing

Leica D VARIO-ELMARIT 14-50mm f2.8-3.5 lens review
When Panasonic announced its debut digital SLR, the Lumix L1, back in February 2006, it's fair to say a great deal of attention was focused on its kit lens – after all this was no ordinary bundled optic.
Pros:
- The only Four Thirds lens with stabilisation
- Good optical and build quality
- Brighter focal ratio than kit lens
- Analogue style aperture ring
Cons:
- Relatively expensive when sold alone
- Aperture ring only works with L1 & Digilux 3
- OIS Mode 2 only works with L1 & Digilux 3
- Limited availability by itself
