Great Camera

My primary goal in purchasing a new camera was fast autofocus, smallish size, and a significant improvement in picture quality vs my old faithful LX5. The cameras I also considered were the Sony RX100 and a5100. My LX5 just cant keep up with motion very well.

small (for an interchangable lens camea) good access to all controls with the touch screen wifi works well flip screenit's useful for more than just selfies good low light af performance good af performance everywhere else too super fast burst speed (with electronic shutter) silent mode can take...

flash does not work in e-shutter mode flash switch could be fiddley for some

There's a fair amount of competition in this sector of the market, but perhaps the closest rivals are Panasonic's own GM5, the Sony A5100 and the Olympus PEN E-PL7.

Small body; Touch sensitive screen; Wi-Fi connectivity

No viewfinder or hotshoe

Panasonic GF7

The little Panasonic GF7 packs a lot of performance into a small, lightweight and easy to use package. It may be billed as an entry-level camera and comes in at an affordable, entry-level price, but the GF7 offers a lot of camera for the money.

Very good image quality for its size; Fast AF for its class; 10fps burst mode with electronic shutter; Lightweight, yet well-built, compact design; Great value for the money

Continuous AF is not reliable; Shallow buffer with RAW; Below average battery life; No EVF; Maximum mechanical shutter speed of only 1/500s

Panasonic Lumix GF7 Review

Features Handling Performance Verdict Specification The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF7 is the latest entry level mirrorless camera from Panasonic, and along with a redesigned body, features a 16 megapixel sensor, 3inch tilting touch screen and built in Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi built in - remote operation; Great image quality; Panoramic mode; New design with mode compact body; High resolution tilting touch-screen; Fast operation; focus; shot to shot; Access to a wide range of Micro Four Thirds lenses; Selfie features are quite good (surprisingly; Available with...

No flash hot-shoe; 230 shot battery life; Auto white balance performance could be better; Would be nice if Wi-Fi supported direct uploads; rather than going via Lumix logon

Compact Size; Front-facing LCD screen; Good image quality

Not as solidly built as some competitors; Image review slow and innacurate

Panasonic's GF7 combines two of the most popular camera trends worldwide: small cameras and selfies. While that might seem a little desperate, Panasonic isn't sacrificing much to accomplish those goals, pulling no punches in the performance department.

Panasonic Lumix GF7 review

There is of course much, much more to all of these models than selfie shooting and even if you never point it in the direction of your own face, the Lumix GF7 has a lot to offer. It's one of the smallest compact system cameras on the market and is pretty pocketable when fitted with the 12-32mm kit...

Forward facing touch-screen; Self shot and Jump snap modes; Wifi with smartphone remote control; Compact and lightweight

Lacks an electronic viewfinder; No hot shoe; Poor battery life
