Olympus ED 50mm f/2.0 Macro review

This Four Thirds lens has 'macro' on the side but only a 1:2 magnification ratio. It relies on the 2x crop factor to bring objects up to size. Despite this, the 50mm lens feels more like a 100mm on Olympus bodies, giving it an ideal focal length for macro tasks.

too sharp sometimes

It's enough to say this lens is belong to Super High Quality grade from Olympus. The lens is very sharp and sometimes too sharp. hard to PP because of the sharpness so you need to add more sharpness if you resized the photo or just crop 100% and you'll be fine.

If you are a Olympus user , there is NO reason not to own this lens in fact this lens along with a few others make the 4/3 system a very attractive option One can only wish that other stellar single focal lengths be made available for the Olympus system
Pros:
  • Outstanding optical quality well built weather seals
Cons:
  • No focus limiter on a macro lens which causes the lens to hunt through the whole focusing range at times

Olympus 50mm f/2.0

As part of the Four Thirds system, Olympus lenses effectively double equivalent focal lengths, so this lens offers a similar angle of view as a 100mm lens on the E-system cameras. One of advantages of this is that lenses are much smaller than their 35mm or APS-C compatible equivalents.
Pros:
  • Small
  • fast aperture
  • sharp and low fringing
Cons:
  • No ratio scale
  • no focus limiter
