A tale worth telling twice: Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir review

Not many games get a second chance at life like Odin Sphere. A PlayStation 2 role-playing game, released in the twilight years of the console's lifetime, Odin Sphere was the topic of many whispers and rumblings, a banner-child for the cult-classics of games.

Incredible artwork; Endearing five-protagonist set-up; Inventive combat; Build-up to ending is spectacular

Blocking is finicky; Some bosses don't pair well with protagonists

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Vanillaware and I have played the original Odin Sphere on PS2. The Odin Sphere was an amazing game and definitely defined what features i thoroughly enjoy in a video-game.

Every bit as lovely as the original, Leifthrasir breathes new life into Vanillaware's debut side-scroller and then some.

Dazzling visuals; interwoven character vignettes; sweeping fantasy score; clever interplay of RPG systems; refined gameplay

Omission of all-new character scenarios; skirmishes can become repetitive

Amazing game

This is an awesome collectors edition. The art is beautiful and the game itself is incredible. Get this now, one day this will be hard to find.

Fixes everything but the grind

A hallmark of excellence. It may have some flaws, but they are negligible to what is otherwise a supreme title.

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir PS4 Review

HD Remakes and Remasters are all the rage these days: the former is about rebuilding an original title from the ground up, the latter is about re-releasing an original title with higher resolution visuals.

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir Review

Odin Sphere is framed narratively as a series of books read by a little girl called Alice with her cat Socrates, in a delightfully presented opening sequence of her picking a book to read, each revolving around one of five protagonists.

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir

Released in 2007 by Atlus and Vanillaware, Odin Sphere was a visually impressive action game that had some pretty interesting mechanics and a distinct art style that set it apart - however, it had its problems.

Greatly improved combat; improved framerate; the impressive style is now in high-definition

Still contains a lot of repition in areas and bosses; so many skills that it's nigh-impossible to use them all

Review: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (Sony Playstation 4)

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is interesting in that it made quite a few updates that make if feel and play much better but those improvements make it line up with the memories you had of it and not what it actually was. It is now a much better game, but still feels a tad bit antiquated.
