Nokia 7.2 review

Had your fingers crossed for a cut-price Pixel 3a alternative? The Nokia 7.2 gets tantalisingly close. It looks the part, runs a clean version of Android (with the latest version set to follow swiftly) and has a battery that should last all day. The camera can't match Google's algorithmic image quality, and performance is only OK, but at £250 here in the UK, the bargain price makes up for it. Motorola's Moto G7 is even cheaper still, but Nokia has a slightly better track record when it come to rolling out updates. If getting the freshest version of Android is important to you, good luck finding more phone for less cash.

Grippy, good-looking design; Pure Android, with updates to follow; Few compromises for the cash;

Pixel 3a still the budget camera king; Lacks power for demanding 3D games; Rivals even cheaper;

Nokia 7.2 Review

At a price of less than £300, the Nokia 7.2 is a classy customer. We like its sleek but practical design and sharp display, while Android One continues to do wonders with relatively limited hardware. It’s an accomplished phone in most respects. What keeps the Nokia 7.2 from glowing praise is its patchy triple-camera system, which suffers from some inconsistent results and an ineffectual Night Mode.

Tidy and tough polycarbonate design; Clean Android One software; Flexible, impressively specced camera;

Camera extremely inconsistent; Night Mode ineffective; Battery life pretty ordinary;

Nokia 7.2 review

The design of the Nokia 7.2 is eye-catching and unique compared to most of the competition - for better or for worse - with a fairly angular design and a glass back that refracts the light to provide a high-end look. The internals are fairly standard for a budget device too. The main issue is disappointing camera performance, especially with regards to the ultra-wide camera.

Nokia 7.2 Review

Nokia scored big with the 7.1, earning four stars and our Editors' Choice. But the smartphone market is rapidly changing, and the Nokia 7.1 was soon eclipsed by the $399 Google Pixel 3a. Nokia's follow-up, the 7.2, shares the same $349 price as its predecessor, along with longer battery life and a faster processor. It's a solid midrange phone that builds on the strengths of the 7.1, but it's not quite enough to knock the Pixel 3a from its perch as our top pick in this price range. Design, Display, and Durability While the 7.2 maintains a similar aesthetic to most of Nokia's midrange portfolio, it has a new circular camera stack and the bezels are reduced, though still fairly prominent. The phone measures 6.30 by 2.96 by 0.32 inches, weighs 6.35 ounces, and comes in black, green, or silver. The front and back of the phone are glass, while the frame is polycarbonate. The front features a teardrop notch at the top of the display and a chunky bottom bezel, while the back is home to...

Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the Nokia 7.2 offers an attractive design and solid specs, but it faces stiff competition.

Attractive design; Android One software; Bright display with accurate colors

Weak low-light camera performance; Tinny speaker
