Nokia 1: Android Go and weak hardware still doesn't cut it

The Nokia 1 is by every measure an entry-level smartphone. Launching in Europe for just 99 euros (around $115), it relies on the simplest hardware, but still aims to be a successful smartphone solution for many users. Will this work We investigate in this hands-on review.

On paper, the Nokia 1.3 looks like an absolute bargain but there's one big issue that means it's very hard to recommend

Nokia 1 Smartphone Review

The limited internal storage and RAM is offset by Android Oreo (Go Edition) which gives users more storage space and memory than traditional Android. There may be problems with exchanging data with a computer of which you should be aware.

removable battery; long battery life; swappable back covers; affordable price; lean OS; many LTE bands; decent GPS; high contrast and color accurate display; dual-SIM; dedicated microSD card slot

issues with PC data transfer; not all microSD cards are compatible; frequent noticeable stutters; slightly delayed reaction to inputs

Nokia 1 Review: Is Nokia the New King of Budget Smartphones

Nokia has just released its first Android Go smartphone, the Nokia 1 , which is targeting the ultra-budget segment of the smartphone market. The device is very special, as not only it's the first Android Go device to launch in India, it's also Nokia's first attempt to recapture the budget smartphone...

Compact and durable The Nokia 1 has a compact 4.5" display and this keeps the phone small, making it ideal for slipping into a pocket or bag. This Nokia phone is 9.5mm thick and very light at 131g. Fill in the form and be the first to know when the Nokia 1 is released .

Have had the phone for 2 months now. Be a little worried that a phone for less than a thousand kronor would suffice. Always feel like phones are always going to be so expensive and can be so amazing. But I think you get amazing phone for the money.

Nokia 1 Smartphone Dark Blue TA-1079 review

Most aspects of the Nokia 1.3 remind you that this is a very affordable phone – the performance, the design, the camera quality – but as long as you're sticking to the basics, it's a cost vs benefits balance that we think will appeal to a certain number of people.

Android One software; Very cheap indeed; Solid build quality

Slow performance; Weak camera; Awkward battery fitting

Nokia 1 review: Robust, reliable and dirt-cheap

While HMDs attempts to re-enter the premium space with the Nokia have yielded mixed results, their broader efforts to re-establish Nokia as a solid value-for-money brand in the mid-tier and budget spaces have panned out surprisingly well.

It turns out that HMD can still manage to make a $149 Nokia device like this one somewhat-compelling, even when you consider the inevitable wrinkles and caveats in play.

Snazzy feel; Consistent performance;

Lackluster camera; Limited storage;

Nokia 1 Smartphone Dark Blue TA-1079 review

The Nokia 1.3 is a Snapdragon running smartphone, but this does not have one of the high end Snapdragon CPUs, rather it runs on a lower-end Qualcomm SD 215 which should be capable of handling day to day usage.
