Nikon Z 26mm f2.8 review

Nikon’s Z 26mm f2.8 is the smallest and lightest autofocus lens for Z-mount to date. It is corrected for full-frame sensors and produces very sharp images in the center at any object distance even wide open.

Nikon Nikkor Z 26 mm f/2.8

There are compromises, especially when it comes to the performance on the very edge of full frame – the resolution is a tad too low, and you have to deal with an influence of coma, vignetting and distortion.
Pros:
  • excellent resolution in the frame centre,, sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX,, negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,, slight lateral chromatic aberration,, lack of problems with spherical aberration,, low astigmatism,, moderate vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor.
Cons:
  • distinct vignetting on full frame,, noticeable distortion,, a bit too high coma at the maximum relative aperture,, performance against bright light could have been better.

Pros:
  • Best-in-class portability, Sharpness in the center is high even at f/2.8, Impressive flare and sunstar performance, Good bokeh and close-focus capabilities for a 26mm lens
Cons:
  • Weak midframe and especially corner sharpness throughout the aperture range, Field curvature and focus shift add to sharpness issues, High levels of distortion and vignetting, External focusing design harms the build quality, Comes with some handling compromises, from the lack of controls to the odd...
