Nikon 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR Micro Nikkor review by whmitty
I was using a Nikon D7000 when I first got the lens and could not have been more satisfied with the images it produced. I now own a Nikon D600 and the lens continues to produce simply indescribably beautiful images.
Pros:
- Stunningly sharp
- AF and VRII actually works well doing 1:1 macro imaging
Cons:
- A tad heavy

Nikon caters particularly well for macro photographers, with 40mm, 60mm, 85mm and 200mm options in addition to this 105mm lens. An update to the popular Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D AF Micro optic, the Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED adds a host of improvements, chief of which being Nikon's...

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G ED IF VR Micro Lens
This Micro lens from Nikon, was the first of it's kind to include vibration reduction when it was introduced. It sports a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture, a silent wave focusing motor, which allows full time manual focus override and Nikon's Nano Crystal anti-reflective lens coatings.

Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR
Definitely the macro lens to start. Maybe for nice softer background look for 200mm macro, and for higher magnification than 1:1 try reverse macro technique, but in basic range this is the the only choice.
Pros:
- Optical stabilizer (works fine even at close-up distances)
- ultra fast focusing (from 0.5m - ∞)
- durable metal body
Cons:
- - The focusing is amazingly fast from 0.5m further
- but on the macro distance 0,3-0,5m is not so accurate as at the longer distances
- but in this situation you will focus manually either
- - "framing" is moving during focusing (find more info on internet reviews

Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR Micro Review
Thanks to the addition of ( ) technology this is a big lens by conventional 100mm standards, and it is also heavier and more expensive than the norm. It is, however, very easy to hold and produces some great results.
Pros:
- Packed full of features
Cons:
- Dubious use of VR technology

Very sharp lens and beautiful photos on an Epson D300. It is heavy and a bit cumbersome, but all is forgiven when the photos show up on the computer screen or in prints. Ideal macro lens -- right focal length (at least for my tastes.
Pros:
- Sharp
Cons:
- Automatic focus sometimes hard to achieve
- Generally use manual most of the time
- VR doesn't work reliable at close distances
- For photos this close one should be using a tripod anyone so no big deal
