Wouldn't it be great to get some serious telephoto zoom reach without filling up most of your gadget bag with a big clunky lens? The Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED fits the bill with a remarkably compact design, and it's less than half the weight of its big brother, the Nikon...
I am a novice, but wanted to purchase the zoom lens for my Nikon camera. It's super easy to change the lens and use. It comes with a nice pouch to store the lens in. I was extremely happy that my order arrived sooner than expected.
The lens VR is a plus, it helps eliminate the shake/movements you make while shooting the subject. It has sharp output. I bought this lens because I needed it for scenery as my husband and I travel a lot (local & international).
Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight; Rugged
Weak Casing
Good choice for this money and for amateur users
lightweight; HSM; VR; big zoom ring
Plastic lens mount; average optical quality; pop-up design; huge vignetting
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Adjust while taking pics; Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Strong Construction; Zoom inout clear pics
While I hope to create a full Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G AF-S DX Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information...
I love this lens. It's one of the available kit lenses for the D5000 I bought recently. It's light weight and produces some extremely crisp results. The zoom action is very smooth and the VR feature works quite well in low light, allowing hand-held images to be taken where a tripod would have to be...
Not sure what to write as I am a big Nikon fan. I bought refurbished lense and it looks like there is still some problem with it. It doesn't go in continues mode, takes time to focus and after click it creates some very unusual sound with lense movement from inside.
Consistent Output
Lens Creep
Good quality plastic lens, not for a pro ( which I also am not), lightweight and fast focusing. No issue with the plastic ring mount, I hope it will hold up well.

Not as versatile as my 18-200mm VR that came with my D200; but since I carry 2 bodies at all times; it does not make much of a diffrence
