Wouldn't it be great to get some serious telephoto zoom reach without filling up most of your gadget bag with a big clunky lens? The Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED fits the bill with a remarkably compact design, and it's less than half the weight of its big brother, the Nikon...

solid, compact package
I got this lens as part of a package along with a 18-105mm lens. I'm finding that I tend to use the 18-105 a lot more. The 55-200 gives a bit more zoom but to keep it light it is quite a bit smaller. Still seems like a good lens and the package made it a great deal.
Pros:
- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
Cons:
- Limited range
- No Macro

a must buy.
Best Pick Under A Very Good Price. Using this lens from 6-7 months impressed with bokeh effect. You can feel the difference between VR and Non VR. Go for it.

Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED DX VR - Review / Test Report
The build quality is actually pretty good and a clear step up from the older AF-S 55-200mm non-VR. That said it is still a consumer grade lens with a plastic body (down to the lens mount). The very broad rubberized zoom ring feels reasonably smooth.

This Lens Is Sharp Even At Wide Apertures
This lens is sharp even at wide apertures, the Vibration Reduction (image stabilization) works great, autofocus speed is more than acceptable, and it is very light and compact. No other company offers a lens with these features at this price.

Nikon AF-S 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR DX Review
This Nikon lens features 15 elements in 11 groups, including one ED element. The main difference from the non-VR lens lies in the way the VR works, requiring a compensatory lens group to be shifted by the VR motors.
Pros:
- Vibration Reduction
- handling
Cons:
- Price
- optically not as good as non-VR version

The main reason for the Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX is the addition of the VR technology, and the first thing that strikes you about this lens is the light weight. At a meagre 355g, its really some achievement to get all it offers into such a small lens.
