This is an excellent little walkaround lens that gives good performance and sharpness plus VR. It all plastic but seems reasonably put together but I don't really like plastic mounts but for the price of this one I can forgive it. Recommended...
Pros:
  • Sharp
  • fast focus,lightweight

Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR DX AF-S Nikkor review by moose

Nikon professional user. This lens should be in your camera bag if you like simple blur-free photographs. The VR is superb. It is super-light and sharp. Fine on my D300 and D3100 cameras when I don't want to carry a heavy zoom and the results are perfect in good light conditions.
Pros:
  • ultra light and sharp lens for use on all DX cameras
Cons:
  • plastic shoe

NIKON AF-S DX VR 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G Lens

Used mainly on my D7000 and is reasonably quick on AF; little adjustment on manual focus so have to have very light touch to get spot-on. Good macro capability for a kit lens; I use mainly for landscapes. It delivers IQ of a quality close to something twice the price.
Pros:
  • Good value
  • light & great IQ for the price
Cons:
  • Plastic feel
  • small manual focus adjustment

Easy to use, great results.

This item was purchased to replace an exact lens accidentally dropped whilst on holiday on Norfolk Island - (not good). This lens is an ideal size for close up and distance shots and takes exceptional photos. Item forms part of my kit with a D7000 camera.

Great for Beginners

Great versatile lens for beginners. I used mainly for candid and hobby shots when I would travel with my boyfriend or having an adventure with friends. I usually use a 50mm but when you want candid shots like taking photos of yourself with a friend the 50 zooms in too much!
Pros:
  • Affordable
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Lightweight
  • Versatile
Cons:
  • Not as sharp as a prime

Not For Printing Purposes

This is a good lens to take pictures only for the computer, but if you want to print them on paper, it fails. The sharpness is missing and clarity is not there.

A very sharp lens for its price!

Love this lens. The right zoom range, the right price and great performance. What else can you ask for The VR is pretty effective, I have taken a few sharp pictures at below 1/15 shutter speed. Would definitely recommend this one for anyone looking for an all-purpose lens which is not so expensive.

Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR

The ‘VR' in this lens stands for Vibration Reduction. The name is different, but the basic mechanism is the same as Canon's IS (Image Stabiliser) technology. Gyroscopic sensors within the lens detect the slightest movement and a ‘floating' element within the lens is instantly adjusted to keep the...

Nikon 18-55mm VR AF-S lens

Awesome lens and lightweight...that's a real plus and what a great price. Will use this in place of my Nikon 18-200mm lens which while great is heavy. This 18-55mm lens was the one on my daughter's new Nikon D3200 and it performed flawlessly.

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Review

Inexpensive. Optically stabilized. Light. Quite sharp. Useful zoom range. The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ($199.95 direct)($199.95 at Amazon) is the standard kit lens for APS-C Nikon D-SLR cameras. Buying it along with a body halves your out of pocket costs to acquire the lens, but owners of older Nikon D-SLRs bundled with its non-stabilized predecessor may consider it as an upgrade. It produces a field of view that is roughly equivalent to 27-83mm in terms of full-frame photography. The lens is light at 9.3 ounces and measures just 3.1 by 2.9 inches (HD). It accepts 52mm filters, but the front element does rotate when focus is adjusted, so using a rotating circular polarizing filter can be tricky. Nikon keeps the weight down by using a plastic mount, rather than the more common metal variety, which is more prone to wear and tear over the years. There's an internal focus motor, which is speeider than older screw-drive systems, but because the front element rotates during focus it can be a bit noisy. A bayonet lens hood is available to re...
Pros:
  • Inexpensive

  • Light
  • Quite sharp
  • Useful zoom range
Cons:
  • Narrow aperture
  • Hood not included
  • Wide-angle distortion
  • Front element rotates during focus
  • Plastic lens mount
