Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens
This professional quality, mid-range zoom lens has been designed specifically for the 'APS-C' sized sensors used in all of Nikon's DSLR cameras and is quite a different beast from the 18-55mm lens supplied with the D50 camera reviewed in this issue.

Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF DX AF-S Nikkor review by Mark95841
Funny how reviews on this site are much lower than other sites. I don't think it's the lens, there's a way to get the best out of this lens, stabilize, compose, focus and shoot. It's easy to get a blurry shot if you are not careful but I don't think a lot of these bad reviews are warranted.- Sharp
- contrasty
- quick focus and amazing
- Expensive
- heavy
The 17-55mm DX lens is a lot larger than you'd expect, only slightly smaller than the 17-35mm f/2.8 FX lens. That's despite producing a smaller image circle. The minute you pick up this lens, you're going to be curious why it is as large as it is. (Hint: it's all about performance.
Exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra-high-speed auto focusing with exceptional accuracy and powerful super-quiet operation.
Nikkor AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 G IF-ED DX - Review / Test Report
The AF-S 17-55mm has a price tag a little beyond the 1000 EUR/US$ barrier but upon first contact it is pretty obvious that you also get some value for your money - the build quality of the lens is superb.
