We think that the compact design and the stabilization system justify the cost, and image quality more than makes the lens worthy of Editors' Choice honors. The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR is a surprisingly small and lightweight full-frame telephoto lens that delivers excellent results in the field. The amazingly compact design and moderate weight allows the lens to be used hand-held in most shooting situations.

I do not think lenses can get any better than this one. Outstanding performer, razor sharp even with the TC-14E III 1.4x tele extender. The VR is also very efficient even with the extender.

Exceptional lens - tack sharp focus and considerably lighter than other 300mm or similarly sized lenses. Hand-held works well. Great birding and landscape lens. Speed of order processing, shipping and delivery by Crutchfield second to none.

I have to admit that I was hesitant about this lens at first. I had heard of some people having issues with the VR on their D800 and D810's. So, like most of my purchases, I rented this before I bought it. I shoot a Nikon D750 and this lens is an absolutely stellar piece of glass.

Great lens for bird photography - light to hold and tack sharp; creates a nice bokeh. Great when used on a dx Nikon camera.
