Fantastic

This new lens has instantly become the one I MUST carry at all times. It offers incredible range, extremely high image quality and a relatively compact and light package.Yes, as many reviewers have said, there's distortion, particularly at wide angles, where it's more noticeable on most lenses, but...

Sharpness; broad focal range; size; focus speed; accurate focus acquisition

Fat and Overpriced

When searching for a good walkaround lens to replace my very heavy 24-70 2.8 I was surprised that many lenses are nearly as big and still pretty darn heavy, but the new constant F4 of this 24-120 intrigued me so I grabbed a copy along with the half-the-price 24-85 VR 3.5-4.5 (kit lens) and tried...

VG build; VR modes; some weather sealing; good focal range

Hilariously expensive for slow glass; big and heavy; not the sharpest at the longer end

Very sharp

I'm a professional photographer, who only used prime lenses. This is the first zoom I found sharp enough to use. I don't have to remove the lens for almost all of my work, eliminating dust on the sensor due to changing lenses.

Great balanced lens

"I have been working with the Sigma 16 - 250mm F/3.5-6.3 lens for the last few years to make things simple. I realized I wanted more control over the f stop, and that the full zoom wasn't used as much as I thought.

The only lens that travels with me, when I want to travel light.

I was torn between the 24-70 f/2.8 and this one. Budget restriction and VR tipped the scale and I went for the 24-120 f/4. And what a good choice it was! I have a (brand new) D800E and the combination is awesome. The 24-120 f/4 actually delivers sharp (very!

Lens gets an unfair bad rap - It's excellent

This lens gets an unfair bad rap as not being sharp at the telephoto end. I'm looking at a 20x30 print right now of a Buddha statue head sticking up out of the snow. I was probably 8-10 feet away. I can see individual ice crystals around the statue's neck, 120mm f4, D800E.

Sharp; good VR; fast focusing for an f4 lens; excellent flare control; covers 90% of what most people shoot; very quiet autofocus

Bit of wide angle distortion at wide end; at f4 more DOF than you may wish for; some examples have zoom creep issues when carried facing down; 77mm filters cost a lot; people will disrespect your lens choice - ignore them

Love this lens

I have been using a prime lens for close up work for years. I purchased this lens several weeks ago and it has not come off the camera yet. It is well made, focus quickly, and is incredibly sharp. If you are on the fence get the lens. You will be glad you did.

Ever since I purchased my FX camera, I have been looking for a lens with this focal length and speed. I'm putting it through its paces and enjoying the experience. I own several specialty lenses, but I' m finding that this lens stays on the camera more than any of the others.

Nikon Got it Right

This is a very sharp lens and it is a natural fit for my D700. I have owned the 24-120 F3.5-5.6 VR version of this lens for several years and never understood why it got such negative reviews, it is a very good lens also.

Consistent Output; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Sharp; Strong Construction
