Nikon AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED

Following in the footsteps of Sigma's 18-35mm f/1.8 lens it would be easy to dismiss Nikon's new AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 as an inferior competitor but nothing could be further from the truth.

Full-frame coverage; Impeccable MTF performance; 18mm maximum coverage; Virtually silent AF; Full-time MF option; Lightweight

Modest maximum aperture; Limited 2x zoom range; Fiddly lens hood

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED Lens - BRAND NEW review

I had to throw a 10 in here to balance out the relatively low ratings. Some earlier ratings gave this lens effusive praise with little criticism and left 8s! Compared other lenses ranked here, this one should be above 9.5.

Excellent center sharpness throughout FL range, very good corners, lightweight, takes filters, good flare resistance, competes well against more expensive options

distortion at 18-20mm, no VR

I bought this lens when I switched from Canon to Nikon. I had been using the Canon 17-40, which I found pretty good. However, once I saw the images this lens was capable of (especially at 18mm) I was thoroughly impressed. It quickly solved my search for a wide lens for landscapes and general use.

Fairly lightweight; IQ punches above its price class; fast AF; common filter size; did I mention it was sharp

A little slow on the long end, makes you want to get a 35mm prime for low light, also because it's slightly less sharp wide open at 35; Could be more compact, perhaps, it is surprisingly long

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification An ultra-wide angle zoom lens for FX format DSLRs covering an ultra-wide field of view without the size, weight or cost of constant aperture f/2.8 or f/4 equivalents.

Outstanding sharpness in the centre throughout the zoom range; Resistant to flare; Good build; Reasonably lightweight; Good CA control

Barrel distortion at 18mm; Falloff of illumination towards the corners at 18mm

Sharp Compact FX Wide Angle Zoom for capturing Landscapes and Street Scenes

I purchased this excellent wide angle for use on my D610 and D750 along with the Nikon 16mm-85mm VR Zoom to shoot U.S. Coast Guard events, landscapes, architectural exteriors/interiors, and urban transportation infrastructure.

New wide angle impresses straight away

Having acquired the "old" 18-35mm when I got my D700 and keen to improve on it if possible, I was keen to get this lens. Have just come back from a two week break in France and used it extensively for landscape shots, architectural stuff, and for general shooting I can report that it is a big...
