Nikkor AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED (FX) - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED delivers excellent center sharpness and very good border and corner performance throughout most of the zoom range, at least when stopped down. Only at the long end of the zoom range the overall resolution drops a little.

Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 G Review

Want an ultra light, ultrahigh performance ultrawide zoom for full-frame and 35mm Nikon? Bingo, your ship just came in. Forget the clumsy older 18-35 AF-D, which sells for not much less money.

Nikkor AF-S 18-35mm f3.5-4.5G ED

The AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is an 'affordable' wide angle zoom lens that's compatible with Nikon's full-frame FX format DSLRs. Announced in January 2013, it's aimed at photographers who've bought lower-priced full-frame DSLRs like the D600, but equally works on cropped-frame DX format...

Good image quality in the DX image-circle; Weather sealing at the lens-mount; Quiet AF operation; Small package; Reasonably priced

Needs stopping down to f8 to produce good FX-corners; Barrel-distortions at 18mm hard to correct; Slow AF

So pleased with this lens for my D600 FX !!!!!

Okay so I have personally worked with Nikon's : - 17-35mm Pro F2.8 - 14-24mm Pro F2.8 Started first with the 17-35mm because its a tank, pro lens, and expectations were high. Was disappointed because especially at 17mm the lens was VERY soft overall and even slighty soft in the center.

Sharp; good colors; moderate/low vignetting; superlight for a ultra wide angle; Less that half of my "ex"- 17-35mm

Plastic yet durable feel

New wide angle impresses straight away

Having acquired the "old" 18-35mm when I got my D700 and keen to improve on it if possible, I was keen to get this lens. Have just come back from a two week break in France and used it extensively for landscape shots, architectural stuff, and for general shooting I can report that it is a big...

Great wide angle zoom lens

I haven't put the lens through extensive tests, but so far I'm pleased. I was a little worried that everyone mentioned the distortion at 18mm, but it's easily fixed in Lightroom or photoshop. The lens is well made, but not too heavy. It goes well with the Nikon D600.

Lightweight; sharp

Announced in January 2013, Nikon's new full-frame 18–35mm f/3.5–4.5G ED AF-S ($747, street) will undoubtedly soon replace the still-in-stores 18–35mm f/3.5–4.5D IF ED ($610, street).
