I used this lens with my Nikon D750, and I found the pictures not very sharp. I returned the lens to Amazon.

Excellent but not the 14-24
I have seen many detailed reports on the differences between the 12-24 and the 16-35. I am a pro landscape photographer and I can tell you that dispite the 16-35 being an excellent lens and having VR it is nowhere near as sharp at all focal lengths than the 14-24.

Sharpest short zoom
I had read reviews on this lens but there is nothing quite like using a lens to see how sharp it is. This lens is a beauty can't recommend it enough and it is a steal at this price. forget the 14-24 f2.8 get this lens and save yourself a load of cash.

Excellent Lens for So Many Applications - It has earned a special spot in my camera bag, and I always take it with me.
Every photograph is a compromise (e.g., shutter speed, ISO, f/stop), every piece of equipment is a compromise (e.g., cost, weight, capabilities). For what I like to do, this lens is perfection. Nikon offers quite a few similar lenses, so you might want to shop carefully.

Excellent for the price
I debated on this versus the 14-28. This is considerably smaller and lighter which appealed to me. I took this on a recent vacation to Ireland and was expecting major distortion and some softness at the longer end based on some (not all) reviews.
