The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm 1:4G ED VR, announced in February 2010, has the distinction of being the world's first ultra-wideangle lens to feature optical image stabilization. It's designed primarily for use on full-frame DSLRs, as a less-expensive alternative to the likes of the 17-35mm 1:2.8D or...
Pros:
  • Very high image quality on both DX and FX formats
  • Excellent build quality with dust and moisture sealing
  • Highly effective optical image stabilization
  • Fast
  • silent autofocus with manual override
Cons:
  • Huge barrel distortion at 16mm on FX cameras
  • Relatively big and heavy for its class (larger than many F2.8 wideangle zooms
  • Slightly inelegant flare handling

Nikon 16-35mm f/4G AF-S VR Lens

While I hope to create a full Nikon 16-35mm f/4G AF-S VR Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and...

Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G ED VR Zoom; Ultra-Wide For FX, Moderate Wide For DX Nikon D-SLRs

When you talk about lenses these days you always have to bring in the multiplication factor, especially when you have a lens that fits comfortably on both so-called full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm F4G ED VR Lens AF-S 16-35MM F4GEDVR review

The 16-35mm ƒ/4G VR is an impressive design, providing excellent results for sharpness at its wider angles. It's evident that the optics of this lens are quite complex, to deliver high sharpness across the frame with only moderate chromatic aberration and vignetting and at a relatively affordable...

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S 16-35mm F/4G ED VR

Being the first of its kind, Nikon's new 16-35mm f/4 ultra-wide zoom, selling for £879, has garnered quite a lot of interest, especially from those who wish to use filters for landscape work, as Nikon's current top-line ultra-wide, the 14-24mm F/2.8 can't accept filters.
Pros:
  • Good all-round resolution performance
  • Lighter than f/2.8 lenses
  • Accepts 77mm filters
  • Vibration Reduction
Cons:
  • Barrel distortion at 16mm
  • Vignetting at 16mm

Nikon 16-35mm f/4G ED VR II AF-S Nikkor

I sort of bought this lens by accident. I was in Hong Kong on holidays and more or less determined to buy some camera gear whilst there. I can't say I really wanted this lens over other lenses such as the 24-70 but it was in a better price range than that lens.
Pros:
  • Excellent performance at pretty well all focal elngths and apertures
  • highly effective VR
Cons:
  • None really but the build quality seemed a little less than I expected but having said this it is still very good

Nikon 16-35mm f/4G ED VR II AF-S Nikkor review by CraigH

I preordered this lens when it was announced, something I don't ever do, but I wanted an ultra wide for FX to go the the Grand Tetons with. I read the initial reviews posted by the internet forum nay-sayers and felt a bit discouraged. Then I got the lens and actually used it.
Pros:
  • Very sharp
  • fairly light weight
  • perfect ultra wide range
  • balances nicely
Cons:
  • None

Back in August 2007, when Nikon introduced the D3, their first full-35mm-frame, FX format digital SLR , they simultaneously updated five lenses: two shorter constant f/2.8 zooms: 14-24mm and 24-70mm and three 400, 500, and 600mm super telephotos with AF-S and vibration reduction (VR).
