Nikkor AF 105mm f/2 D DC - Review / Test Report

The build quality of the lens is excellent thanks to combination of metal and plastic parts with a Nikon "pro style" crinkle finish. The length of the lens remains constant regardless of the focus setting and the front element does not rotate due to an RF (Rear Focusing) design.

None better

This is the only Nikkor lens I have used that reminds me of the Leica glass I used to use. The results are unique. No it is not the "sharpest" lens made and the DC feature is somewhat obsolete with the advent of Photoslop, but pictures delineated with this tool at f2.0 are unlike any other.

Best lens I own

I use this lens on a D7000, giving a 35mm equivalent focal length of around 150mm. Makes it ideal for headshot portraits. I also use it in-studio for product photography. The lens is razor sharp and renders colors and contrast perfectly. People talk about this lens having a learning curve.

Nikon 105mm f/2D AF DC Nikkor review by wolfbreath

This lens is better than I expected. Image quality, build quality ...all of it. For portraits, or telephoto in general, I feel it's among the best lenses in existence from Nikon. Only a couple of minor issues. Focal lenght is a little long on DX. Not that convenient in tight spaces obviously.

Sharp; Creamy bokeh; Excellent color rendition and contrasts

Sometimes get CAs wide open; Required AF fine tuning on D7k (not that bad)

This is the finest portrait lens I've ever used and I can't stop gushing about it. The picture quality is fantastic and it's increasingly more exciting to use everyday. Compared to a handful of other lenses I've tried and used, this is by far the best.

Superb images Tough build

A little big and heavy

Great, sturdy, sharp lens. Must to have prime lens.

Great, sharp lens. A very good lens you don't want to miss. Work very well with my Nikon D90. Sturdy look like a piece of American military item.

I should not be let loose in a camera store. I had been looking at this lens for a couple months now, before having a chance to pick it up at a decent price (they're close to 1,500 here in Canada) and visiting B&H in NYC a nice Grey Market one came up for under a grand so I had to pick it up.

- Fast lens @ f/2; - Defocus Control is great for creative portrature; - solid construction; - sharp; sharp; sharp; - Compatibility with new and older bodies

- Cost

Absolutely Great Lens

This is everything you want in a pro lens. Perfect clarity. Great color saturation. Good focus response. Solid build. The out-of-focus parts of the image are incredible and really draw attention to the subject.

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

For Potrait

The Prince of Bokeh, one of the sharpest lenses made by Nikon, it's a must have.

Unbelievable Lens

First of all I need to start this review out by stating that I find this optic to be nothing short o

Excellent image quality even wide open and stunning from f/2.8 to f/4.

VERY expensive; Expect to pay $600 secondhand, $725 grey market and $900 USA
