Nikon Coolpix S640
The Nikon Coolpix S640 is one of many ultra-compact point-and-shoot cameras with a wide-angle lens. This model manages to stand out by its ultra-fast autofocus system, something which is unmatched among such small cameras.

- High purple fringing
- Slow shot to shot speed
- Pathetic continuous drive
- Severe loss of contrast starting at ISO 800
- Redeye problems
- Battery charges in camera
- Poor tripod mount placement

Simply the best compact digital camera I have ever used. I normally use a D80, and rarely use compacts, but this is truly a great camera.
Pros:
- Super fast power up
- great images
- super fast focus..
Cons:
- None that I can find..

I have been an avid Canon and Olympus camera user and finally decided to buy my first Nikon after reading the great reviews of the S640 online before it luanched in the market in Aug 2009.

Nikon Coolpix S640
The Nikon Coolpix S640 is on the face of it a rather run-of-the-mill compact camera, with a 12 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom lens and 2.7 inch screen. That's not telling the whole story though, as Nikon are claiming that the diminutive S640 is the fastest focusing camera in its class, and even...

Nikon Coolpix S640
The Nikon Coolpix S640 is a 12 megapixel digital camera. It has a 5x wide angle lens. The Coolpix S640 is small enough to fit into most pockets and is also a lightweight camera. I like the design of the camera. Although the design is quite simple the camera has a touch of elegance about it.
Pros:
- Ease of use - simple design
Cons:
- Slow start up time

Nikon S640 Review
I recommend the Nikon S640 for those of you looking for something simple, yet capable. It's a decent point and shoot camera, but not necessarily one that will stand out in the crowd.

Nikon Coolpix S640
Featuring a flat front panel and a boxy countenance, the S640 doesn't scream anything in particular when you take it out of the box. There are no dangerous curves, no odd protrusions or quirky exterior additions.
Pros:
- Quick autofocus
- Wide-angle lens
- 5x optical zoom
Cons:
- Quick to start-up but takes a few seconds to actually initialise
- No HD video
- Noisy above ISO 400

Nikon Coolpix S640 Review
Alright, I have one more Nikon camera review before I move on to other things like the Canon PowerShot S90. The Nikon Coolpix S640 is a compact point-and-shoot that packs a 5X zoom lens and supposedly "very fast AF".
Pros:
- Acceptable image quality
- mostly for shooting in good light, Fairly fast autofocus performance, Good battery life
- USB charging enabled, 5X optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization (though see below, Automatic scene selection, many scene modes, elaborate face detection/portrait features
Cons:
- Edge softness and below average image clarity, Slow lens aperture range at telephoto end, No manual controls
- scarce on-screen display details, No HD video recording
- optical zoom and optical stabilization unavailable when recording, Slow burst mode and below average writing times

Nikon Coolpix S640
Super-compact and luxurious, but sluggish in use and Canon edges it on desirability
