Black Sheep Rises | New Super Luigi U Review

Being a Mario fan can be exhausting. With Nintendo transitioning the series into an annual cash cow, there seems to be a new Mario release practically every few months. Not content to let their Wii U heavy hitter go stale, Nintendo has spiced up their Mario launch game with some DLC.

+More Difficult; +More Luigi

-Lackluster Level Design; -Sloppy Multiplayer

New Super Luigi U reviewed

Giving Mario's bumbling brother Luigi a starring role, the add-on remixes the game's 80+ levels, tweaks certain platforming elements and adds a new multiplayer character, essentially breathing new life into an already excellent platformer.

New Super Luigi U is a terrific title for capable platform gamers, with intense and exciting bursts of momentum to put those thumbs to the test. What that does do, however, is make multiplayer even more awkward than before, and possibly puts the title beyond the reach of less experienced gamers,...

New Super Luigi U

New Super Luigi U is the chance the taller brother has waited for since being relegated to "player 2" status so many years ago. Its smaller levels, restrictive time limit, and floaty physics work well as a challenge mode add-on to an already terrific game.

Same great gameplay; Interesting level remixes; Lots of challenge

Controls can frustrate; No new story/quest

New Super Luigi U DLC Review

If you are a fan of ‘New Super Mario Bros. U,' the Luigi DLC has a lot to offer you

Clever level design; More of the game people love; The new character of Nabbit is great for beginners

More of the same old same old; Relatively expensive

New Super Luigi U (Wii U) Review

Luigi takes over his brother's game with this massive DLC. Is it worth the price of admission?

+ Over 80 new levels; + New mechanics add challenge; + Level design

Lack of presentation upgrade; Nabbit is hit and miss

New Super Luigi U Review

At first glance, New Super Luigi U looks like any other New Super Mario Bros. game, except that you now control Mario's skinnier, floatier brother, Luigi. Oh, if only it were that simple.

The redesigned levels are dense and challenging; Luigi's distinct physics add a unique feel to the action; Optional objectives extend the endgame in a worthwhile way

Recycled art and music from New Super Mario Bros.

New super Luigi U is pure gold. From the moment I finished the first level, I knew I was in for a treat. My main beef with New Super Mario Bros U was that it was way too easy. Now, with the help of Luigi, I finally have a REALLY challenging mario game to play. As everyone says, Nabbit is great.

New Super Luigi U Review

No longer will Luigi be green with envy, as the oft-overlooked brother of the adventurous plumbing duo now takes the center stage in New Super Luigi U . Not only is Mario no where in the game, Nintendo scratched out the Bros. from the title. That's right, it's all about Luigi.

Luigi is way cooler than Mario; Incredibly challenging; but without being cheap; Genius level design plays to both Luigi's flaws and advantages; Only $19.99 as DLC; or $29.99 as a separate disc (coming in August

No separate story for Luigi, Paying to play essentially the same game as New Super Mario Bros; U, Tags
