"solid build and quiet switch = happy chappy"

Well there isn't much to say about this switch. I've bought 4 of these and they are all working fine. This is basically the big brother of the FS108 switch. The FS108 is 100mb Full duplex switch ( full duplex meaning it can send and receive data at the same time), which theoretically gives 200mb...

small compact size; metallic body; passive cooling=no noise

gets a bit hot during summer

QuickView: NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

Since the GS108 is an unmanaged switch, there's not much more to say about it, so I'll cut right to the testing. I tested using two systems running WinXP SP2 - one an Athlon 64 3000+ w/ 512 MB, the other a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 w/ 504 MB.

? Gigabit Ethernet with Jumbo Frame support for not a lot of

? Hard to tell if you're buying Jumbo Frame capable product

It Just Works!

First off, note that the actual product is different than the piture. Netgear has updated the swith, so it is more compact. It basically has just the ethernet ports, and the status lights. The lights are fairly close together, so seeing what is going on (link activity) is kind of hard.

Silent operation; decent enough ports; compact design; lifetime warranty

Should have nine ports

Does exactly what I expected. I have not done any speed tests but pulling pictures from my NAS drive is fast. The drive I received is much smaller than the picture. If you go to the Netgear site youll see the difference. There is no bank of lights on the left.

One fine 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch

100/1000Mbps is the only switch to use for home use. Metal case and low-cost ($8/port) makes the GS108 a no-brainer.

Solid; metal case; 1Gbps; simple to use

Non-manageable - minor issue for home use

Also faultless for about 15 months...

...and also died. There seems to be a common problem with these, which manifests itself as the "little blinking lights of death". But it's from the ProSafe range, and has a lifetime warranty.

Perfect switch

This 8 ports switch worked so well for me. There was no problem since I bought this product a few months ago. Easy to set up. Just plug and play. Files transfer between several computers in the network are very fast.

Work so well with other branch

Item Failed

This switch was fantastic until it bit the dust. I used it in a software testing lab environment without any problems until one day all the lights were blinking (one second on and one second off).

Worked great for 9 months

Stopped working after 9 months

Netgear 8 port Gigabit Switch

I purchased this switch a while back to replace a broken L2 managed big name switch which was way more expensive and it did a great job handling transfers, sharing of resources and even sensing and distributing links to all the pcs, printers and servers.

-Easy to use auto sensing uplink ports; -Its 10/100/1000 transfer speed capabilities; -Works well with any router to provide optimal network speeds; -Grounding point included

-No cooling for long period of full load usage; -No grounding cable included; -No 1U rack mount kit included

Cheap Power Adaptor, Expensive to Replace

Although the switch itself has a "lifetime" warranty, the power adapter is only warrantied for two years. Our failed after about 2.5 years, and Netgear charges $27.00 for a replacement with is closed to 30% of the cost of the switch.
