Sometimes, no amount of prime router placement can get you decent Wi-Fi coverage throughout your house. Netgear isn't the first to try and solve this problem, but its new Orbi Wi-Fi system tackles it pretty handily.
Excellent coverage; Easy setup; Approachable design
Mighty pricey; Finicky Wi-Fi band settings
NETGEAR's Orbi kit is one of the strongest wireless systems on the market thanks to its engineering, but with that comes a hefty price tag that will scare some away.
Bought a 3 unit package (main base and 2 satellites) set from Costco for $499. The setup was super easy and the performance is excellent in my view point. The unit came with an older Firmware code (1.2.x) which did not support some advanced features such as the "Guest" network.
Easy to setup; great performance
Unbaked firmware code; has glitches
Kitguru Says: The Netgear Orbi is a new style of wireless router, providing reliable WiFi that can extend way beyond what a standalone single router can manage.
Covers a huge area with reliable networking; Decent performance with 802.11ac and 802.11n; Amazing 802.11ac range; Lots of useful configuration features
Not as fast as the quickest current 802.11ac routers; Relatively expensive; USB 2.0 only; which is currently disabled
The router is probably the most underutilised IT product in the average home, if you think about it. Sure, it works 24/7, but how do most people use it? They plug it in and leave it.
It's not cheap, but the Netgear Orbi significantly expands wireless network coverage and delivers rock-solid Wi-Fi.
The Netgear Orbi is one of the best devices in its class and after it has gained the daisy-chain capabilities, it became a more complete device, while still being able to outperform all of the popular wireless mesh systems from the market.
Stellar Wireless Performance; Dedicated Backhaul 5Ghz Radio; MU-MIMO Technology; Easy-to-Use Interface
Very Expensive; There Are Some Dormant Features; Ethernet Backhaul Is Unstable
The high cost aside, the Orbi System is a sure and easy way to cover a relatively large home with high-speed Wi-Fi coverage.
The Orbi Wi-Fi system conveniently delivers large Wi-Fi coverage without compromising speed; The system doesn't require an account with Netgear to work.
The system is expensive; and there's no mobile app for its setup process.
When deployed with a single satellite, the Netgear Orbi is an excellent choice for moderate-sized homes, delivering higher TCP throughput than mesh...
Strong Wi-Fi performance (with a satellite, Three-port gigabit ethernet switch on the router; four-port switch on the satellite, Dedicated 4x4 radio...
Not nearly as fast as the competition when operating solo; Physically larger and more visually obtrusive than the competition; USB port is currently...
