Moto G5 review
There’s plenty of competition in Android’s budget market, but the Moto G5 is one of the best. The build quality alone feels like it belongs on a much more expensive phone, while the fingerprint gesture controls genuinely improve the Android experience. The benchmarks and battery hold it back, but they're not unreasonable given the price. You'll find better specs in Chinese phones, but if you don't need a dual-SIM phone and you want the peace of mind of a proper UK warranty, it's a solid choice. But do check out the G5s as well if your budget can stretch a little.

Atypical user
I don't much use my phone for calls or texts and manage on a PAYG contract, topping up £5 about once every two months. However I use my phone a lot for reading the Times for which I have a subscription, as a SatNav using Co-Pilot and as a GPS for which I use Viewranger.

ImageTagInstance gallery-f589fb68-f0fe-44bd-8e88-f0b3c6b77b72 IntroductionIn the past few years, the Moto G series has set a standard in affordable phones that few can match. This year, Lenovo has two G series phones: the HTMLTagInstance html-tag-fb97b974-2d39-445b-88b7-da81d93a68ba Moto G5 and the HTMLTagInstance html-tag-bc6fbd08-61ed-4057-993b-11624e399ff0 Moto G5 Plus. The G5 Plus is the one that has gotten all the attention so far: it’s got the powerful and very battery-savvy Snapdragon 625 system chip, it’s got a fast Dual Pixel auto-focus camera, and it has a starting price of just $230.And then there is the Moto G5 that we have up here for review. It’s a much different phone than the G5 Plus and this is important to know: it has a smaller, 5” display, it has the severely less powerful Snapdragon 430, a completely different camera and half the on-board storage. And it’s also not available in the United States, and this one is an even more important distinction. Why? Simple: price...

Motorola Moto G5 review: A rock-bottom bargain for your everyday essentials
The Moto G5 is the phone to get if you want an everyday phone for as little possible, but if you want higher-end features like NFC then go for the G5 Plus. There's a lot I like about the Moto G5, and it's not just the extremely low price.
Pros:
- The Moto G5 costs little, but packs a full-HD screen, good cameras and enough power for your everyday essentials.
Cons:
- The dim screen can be difficult to read under bright lights and you'll need to be careful if you want to get a whole day out of the battery.

Motorola Moto G5
There's a lot I like about the Moto G5, and it's not just the extremely low price. The G5 will set you back only £170 in the UK. It won't be heading to the US and Australian prices are yet to be confirmed, but its UK price converts to roughly $220 and AU$ 289.
Pros:
- The Moto G5 costs little
- but packs a full-HD screen
- good cameras and enough power for your everyday essentials
Cons:
- The dim screen can be difficult to read under bright lights and you'll need to be careful if you want to get a whole day out of the battery

Lenovo Moto G5 review: a Pixel for less than $300
For this latest phone in the Moto G series, not much has changed really. This minor technical evolution is not necessarily a mistake on the part of Lenovo, because the device has nevertheless evolved intelligently. The Moto G5 is simply a more modern version of its predecessor.
Pros:
- Pure Android interface
- Good value for money
- Good screen
- Removable battery
- Good photo quality in decent light
Cons:
- Small internal memory
- Low photo quality in low light
