Microsoft Surface Pro 4 - Fourth time's the charm
Not quite notebooks and not quite tablets, Microsoft's family of Surface devices has typically featured well engineered hardware that made compromises in the pursuit of versatility.
Pros:
- Brilliant screen
- Much improved TypeCover
- Surface Pen is still a joy
Cons:
- Lacklustre battery
- Trackpad still a little small
- A little awkward to use on your lap

Today's tablet: Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 reviewed
A year has passed between Microsoft's tablet-turned-laptop , and for the fourth generation, it thinks it has nailed the bugs. Is this the best tablet out there
Pros:
- Fantastically sharp screen
- Removal of Microsoft Windows logo feels like it makes the screen bigger
- Excellent sound
- Performance is top notch
- Password-less login works by identifying your face
- and is a treat
- Magnetic pen attachment now sits on the left side of the tablet no longer requiring you...
Cons:
- Paint job on the back is very easily scratched
- No Type C USB port
- Magnet is stronger on the pen
- but it still falls off all too easily
- Still the occasional black screen of death where the machine won't return from sleep requiring you to go online

Microsoft has done a lot more than replace the notebook
The Surface looks little like a notebook. It doesn't sell with a keyboard and trackpad. What you get is a slate with a kickstand and the digital equivalent of a pen. This hardly sounds like a device that could replace a computer, but it unequivocally is the notebook of tomorrow.
Pros:
- Keyboard cover is fantastic
- Notebook-grade hardware
- with processors up to Intel core i7
- Optimised for Windows 10
- Rich 12.3-inch display

I was looking for a laptop replacement for my 6 year old Lenovo Thinkpad. I also wanted to portability and form factor of a tablet, The Surface Pro 4 is a perfect solution. I highly recommend it. I use it mainly for office applications and corp email - it performs perfectly.
