Review: Metro Redux offers an underrated series in an extremely attractive package

Even if you've played both games and all the DLC, the 2033 update alone is worth your time.

The improved visuals have enriched this intoxicating world; Mechanical improvements bring parity across both games; A real FPS challenge; with modes to satisfy even the masochists

Despite the refit; there are still some polishing issues

A Dim Light

Some games are about people--their struggles, their hopes, their dreams, their powers. Other games are about systems and logic. Blocks fall from above and you maneuver them into place, you twist dials into the correct pattern, or you collect enough currency until you can afford a stronger helmet or...

Adjustments to visuals and interface make the included games seem like two halves of one whole; Fantastic atmosphere soothes the dread with droplets of violence and hope; Great pacing allows the chill to seep into you before action erupts; Weapons make you feel just potent enough to have a chance in...

The AI can be heavily exploited; Some silly and distracting narrative events

Metro: Redux Review

Despite their seemingly miserable setting, both Metro games are in fact fun, diverse shooter-adventures, and the remastered 2033 does a good job of smoothing down the original's rougher edges at the expense of some of its brutal personality.

Survival and Sentinel modes; Better AI; Stealth hunting

Monster crowds; Silly accents

Metro Redux review

For $80 you're getting two great games, one of them massively enhanced, and all DLC. Neither is really worth playing again, unless you were a diehard fan, but if you missed Metro last-gen and need something to play on PS4 or Xbox One, and can handle the thrills of an atmospheric shooter consumed by...

+ Two great games bundled together; + Metro 2033 is massively improved on the new engine; + Spartan or Survivor mode in Last Light

+ Neither game was perfect; and gameplay issues remain; + Bad voice acting

Metro Redux Review

Even if you played the original releases, Metro Redux is still an attractive proposition. The improvements to 2033 are substantial, while the more minor tweaks to Last Light simply refine a fantastic experience.

Metro Redux Review

P ost-apocalyptic games are all over the place these days. It seems like every time a new game is announced there is a high chance that it takes place some time after we've all been blown up, infected, or destroyed in some way.
