To quickly recap for the uninitiated, Luigi's third spooky outing takes place at the Last Resort, a skyscraper hotel in the middle of nowhere the Mushroom Kingdom regulars consider a definitely safe and normal place to holiday. What could possibly go wrong

If the original Luigi's Mansion goes down in history as one of the GameCube's most unique and fun games, then Luigi's Mansion 3 will go down in history for being more of the same. That's mostly not a bad thing. But it's hard not to criticise Nintendo here for playing it ‘too safe’. Luigi's Mansion makes the jump to Nintendo's portable power-house retaining most all of the charm of the original, no doubt pleasing newbies to the franchise. However returning players could be forgiven for wondering if they're just taking a trip down memory lane. Especially those who picked up the 3DS title Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, which Nintendo seemingly forgets ever existed re-introducing ‘new’ features we've seen before. Luigi's Mansion 3 successfully breaks up the action into bite-sized peices suitable for your train ride home. Sometimes though these play sessions can become frustrating as solutions to puzzles rely on seldomly-used skills you all but forget about bewteen play-sessions. Overall, this is a good, not great game that's likely to please newcomers but leave returning players wondering “Is this it-”.

There's something magical about the Luigi's Mansion franchise. While Mario has made a name for himself as an unflappable pillar of courage, Luigi's household brand is one of constant terror. No one wants to be the scaredy-cat brother, but Luigi pulls it off with style and grace.

Everything looks terrific; Vacuuming feels great; Puzzles are very clever; I'm sure

Boss fights feel random and obtuse; collectibles feel tacked on; Rising checklist dread became too much

It hasn't been that long since Cubed3 last got its hands-on Luigi's latest outing with the E3 demo. Despite not being finished, the demo looked great, although only so much could be explored with a 15-minute time limit.

It's Luigi's time to shine. Can he handle the spotlight

- Combat gets tiresome a bit too quickly; - Will be too easy for some; - Currency is wasted

It's Halloween this week but, alas, the days of dedicated horror games being released to coincide with it are long gone. There's plenty of live service games that will have Halloween promotions, but they're not intended to scare, only fleece you of your money via microtransactions.

Amazing graphics create an impressively interactive world with a secret hidden in every corner and some fantastically inventive boss battles and set pieces; Fun co-op options and multiplayer

Unnecessarily fiddly controls take a while to get used to; Very few puzzles are all that difficult and the whole game is rather easy; Destruction effects are fantastic, but strangely wasted

If you are looking for a challenge then Luigi’s Mansion 3 might not be for you. The game is only mildly difficult but – for most – that won’t really matter. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is an absolute delight from start to finish, bursting with charm and re-playable mechanics.

Bags of fun; Easy to pick up and play; A quirky environment to get lost in;

Slightly repetitive enemies; A couple of tiresome puzzles;

Mario, it turns out, isn't the only plumber in Nintendo's employ who can carry his own great game. Luigi's Mansion 3 is so much fun, so charming, and so smartly designed that, moving forward, I really hope we get more than three of these games every 20 years.

After ridding several haunted mansions of their ghost infestations in the series' first two games, the taller, goofier brother of Nintendo's first family is ready for his biggest task yet: cleansing a whole haunted hotel.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is the high point of the series, simply because it polishes the Luigi's Mansion formula to a shine.
