Review: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Of course, price is going to be the big sticking point with this laptop, and I suspect most buyers will gravitate toward the lower-end configurations. The $1,400 version is about in line with the $1,200 MacBook Air, and that's clearly the machine which both Lenovo is targeting and which buyers are...

Head-turningly svelte and blazingly fast: Everything you want from an ultrabook; MIL-SPEC approved; Absolutely gorgeous display; Good old flat-black Lenovo charm

Slow to boot (nearly 30 seconds); Surprisingly buggy during normal operations, like running Windows Update; Clickpad is merely OK; Puny battery

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

I admit it, the moment I saw the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon I had a serious crush. That's not wildly unusual for this technologist, but those first crushes often turn to indifference once I put a machine through its paces.

Lovely design, 3 lb; weight, high res display, superb keyboard

No dock or battery slice options; battery life just average

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Review

Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch retains almost everything that is good about the original X1 Carbon while adding the touchscreen many value in a Windows 8 machine.

Light weight and slim; Semi-rugged and durable construction; Excellent keyboard for an Ultrabook; Multiple inputs; including TrackPoint; Speedy performance

Only two USB ports; Sub-par touchpad; Touchscreen means lower battery life; Viewing angles aren't as wide as we'd like

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga review

As far as laptop ranges go, there's very little introduction needed for the ThinkPad family. First produced by IBM more than twenty years ago, Lenovo acquired the entire range a decade later.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is everything the original X1 should have been. Though its TN screen doesn't quite match up to the premium style, build and features of this stunning Ultrabook, in every other regard it's easily the best business ultraportable around.

Stylish; light and sleek; Superb backlit; spill-proof keyboard; Durable soft-touch finish; Powerful specs; Good high-res screen

No Ethernet port; Screen panel still TN

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Review

Kitguru says: A fantastic ultra portable which is quiet, powerful and cool running.

fantastic build quality; responsive touchscreen; class leading keyboard; good SSD options; quick charging

integrated graphics are weak; Due a Haswell update; touchscreen adds a fine layer of grain to the images; battery life could be better; audio is thin

Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Practical is the X1's middle name, along, perhaps, with pricey -although this depends from whom you buy it. The choices Lenovo has made won't suit everyone though, and at this price you start to resent something that would be a mere quibble on a cheaper system.

Sturdy and practical; fast-charge battery; backlit keyboard; built-in 3G

Glare around the screen; unimpressive battery life; annoying port cover

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon review

Lenovo's first ThinkPad Ultrabook wasn't up to scratch, but the firm has addressed criticisms and nailed it second time around. The familiar ThinkPad design and build quality mean it'll stand the rigours of the office, the trackpad and keyboard are superb, and the screen's better than ever thanks to...

In case you didn't notice, the ports on the left side of the X1 are hidden behind a rubber door. Words simply can't express how much I dislike that particular design element. I know that Lenovo's engineers put the rubber door on the notebook to keep the edge of the notebook "clean" on that side, but...

Thin design with lots of ports; Excellent performance; Bright screen with Gorilla Glass

Integrated battery; Glossy screen; Annoying touchpad issue
