Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2018) Review

The X1 Carbon is a slick refinement of the classic ThinkPad formula.

Refined keyboard and touchpad experience; Soft-touch carbon materials feel great; Perfect use of Thunderbolt 3; Speedy processor and storage; Robust build quality

Touchscreen isn't responsive; Expensive compared to competitors; Mediocre battery life under some loads

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2018 (WQHD HDR, i7) Laptop Review

The 2018 version of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon did not change that much compared to the previous model. The chassis is basically identical, and Lenovo only changed some visual details. We like the black logos and hinges, but the new colored X1 logo on the lid takes time getting used to.

high-end; light; and slim chassis; very bright WQHD panel with wide color gamut; decent performance utilization of the quad-core CPU; modern port selection including regular USB Type-A; good system performance; excellent keyboard; long battery runtime; three-year warranty; fast SD reader..

...but only microSD and tricky to access; very glossy screen; HDR is not supported yet; high surface temperatures under load; fan quickly reacts to load and emits a high-pitched noise; not "WWAN-ready; very limited maintenance; LAN only via (included) adapter

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2018) review: business in the front, business in the back

There are few things more consistent in the tech world than ThinkPad laptops. For over 25 years, IBM and then Lenovo have been cranking out the utilitarian workhorses that put business needs first.

Lightweight; yet durable design; Comfortable keyboard; good touchpad; Adequate supply of ports; Matte display option is a treat; Fast performance

Only average battery life; Questionable keyboard layout choices; Dizzying array of configurations that require too many compromises; Sucky fingerprint scanner; Active; sometimes noisy; fans

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th gen 2018) review: HDR screen makes for sometimes sensational laptop

The sixth-generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon gets in first with HDR screen skills, making it a standout laptop. Its not eye-searingly bright, mind, but that added brightness certainly makes for clean visuals that are far cleaner than other laptops we've been using of late.

HDR screen option is bright and clean; Tough magnesium alloy frame and different 'business casual' lightweight carbon design; 4G/LTE support for on-the-go working

Undeniably expensive; Battery life should be better; HDR screen backlight not uniform (shows in dim conditions; Nipple trackpad's presence won't appeal to all

Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 (2018) review: The perfect business companion

To sum it all up, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6 th Gen comes across as a great all-rounder business notebook. Lenovo successfully takes the practical fundamentals of the ThinkPad series and beautifully fuses it with the modern-day conveniences of an ultra-portable notebook.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2018) review: A flawed gem of a 14in laptop

This latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a much more qualified success than its more recent predecessors; it's hot, it's expensive, and it's not as powerful as the XPS 13 despite having the same processor and RAM.

Light and compact; Much-improved display; Top-class keyboard

Temperamental trackpad; CPU performs below capacity

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2018) review

As much as I love the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, it's not the best laptop in its price range. And cost is what it's all about. The Dell XPS 13 has similar benchmark scores, a prettier design, and a longer battery life for £200 less.

Ultra-portable; Wonderful keyboard; Speedy benchmarks; Built-in webcam cover

Oversaturated display; Occasionally tricky trackpad; Shorter battery life than old X1 Carbon

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2018)

For road warriors who value portability and are blessed with generous IT budgets, it doesn't get much better than the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This ultraportable takes nearly everything there is to love about full-size ThinkPads and puts it in a much smaller, but just as good-looking, package.

Premium build quality; Thin and light; Very good battery life; Quick charging

Expensive; Finicky touch screen; Anemic speakers; No Ethernet port

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th Gen)

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th gen) is simply the best thin and light machine you can buy in the commercial or consumer space.

Best in class keyboard; Bright; matte; IPS; touchscreen display; Excellent performer; Dependable battery life

Expensive

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen review: A peerless business ultraportable

Lenovo's flagship 14-inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon is now on its 6th generation. It heads up the company's range of business laptops, along with two newer kids on the X1 block: the convertible ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen and the detachable ThinkPad X1 Tablet 3rd Gen .

Compact; light; solid build; Excellent keyboard; 8th-generation Intel Core processors; Screen option with Dolby Vision HDR; ThinkShutter privacy cover for camera

Disappointing speakers; No reduction in size and weight from previous generation; Noticeable screen bezels; Expensive
