Great device!
I liked the device and the cover. Just I need and was delivered in my post box. An easy way to buy things for the job.

Drive physical failure in less than 13 months.
Had this drive for less than 13 months when it failed completely with physical errors. Can't reinitialize. In other words, it's a brick. It was never dropped. In fact, it was never moved from the top of my MacPro desktop and used only occasionally as a back up drive.

Didn't last longer than 2 weeks
Bought Lacie cause I read a lot of positive reviews about it. Took it with me upstate NY to film a retreat for the client. On the 2 day of the retreat, I transferred all information from SD cards to my new LaCie and checked everything before I went to sleep.

LaCie has a strong USB 3.0 enclosure that is fast, reliable and cheap. Chris takes a look and shows us that USB 3.0 storage doesn't have to break the bank.

LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt (120GB SSD)
If you need the fastest rugged portable storage, the LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt ($199.99 list) is the external drive you want. This solid-state drive (SSD) is made for a Mac, but is strong enough for a PC, especially now that Thunderbolt is available on Windows laptops.
Pros:
- Speedy SSD
- Thunderbolt Interface
- USB 3.0
- Both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cable included
- Ruggedized to take commuting abuse
- SSD can be moved while in use.
Cons:
- Still pricey on a GB per dollar basis

LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 500GB
It's fair to say that LaCie's Rugged drives don't look like anything else out there. The stout aluminium shell and garish rubber sleeve are certainly distinctive.

LaCie Rugged USB 3.0
drive for its durability, but inside the orange and silver case is a 500GB hard drive that performs, on average, better than its counterparts. At $149, this is not the cheapest or slimmest option, but you're getting a drive that can be dropped from 7 feet, and it comes with online backup to boot.

- High Capacity
- Performs as advertised
- Portable

Rugged it is, but Mini not really!
The former one was strong (I used it for 18 months and I travel constantly) and well-protected (although with time, the aluminium enclosure of the original rugged would suffer somewhat - it did). The new one looks really indestructible.
