Great product!

I was looking for a fast and reliable portable drive to carry files when I travel. This one had a rugged design and seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, so I gave it a try. I've been using it for a few months now, without any issues.

Amazing!

I was a bit skeptical about the mini at first. But it works flawlessly, fits perfectly in decent sized pockets, and is fast! The only con is that at times it can get a little hot but this has only happened twice. Overall it is a great product and well worth your money!
Pros:
  • Fast
  • Quiet
  • Reliable

Super reliable, super fast delivery, too. I have faith in my little hard drive. I use it for storing sample libraries for music and it has done the job quickly and efficiently. I'll be ordering others in the future I'm certain of it.
Pros:
  • I like the weight of this drive
  • and for someone who may be travelling more in the future
  • I'm very pleased that it is so reliable and yet portabable
Cons:
  • As with all drives, it does get hot, and when it gets hot, it can occasionally make a humming noise
  • But, honestly, it's barely noticeable at all

Not So Rugged Drive

My rugged lacie mini turned out to be not-so rugged. After less than a month of use (at home on my desk), my computer could no longer detect the hard drive and after running lacie service diagnostics under their direction, they told me it was broken and needed to be sent in for repairs.

Rugged and Fast

I'm very happy with this drive. I bought it for backing up data on location shoots, and they it's excellent for that. I'm safe in the knowledge the backup will be in once piece when I get home, no matter where I go.

Drive fine, connector not

No way to even salvage the drive inside, as LaCie uses the same type of weird screws with pins in the middle that Apple uses on their products to lock them down.
Pros:
  • Looks nice
  • The drive itself worked fine
  • Rugged orange rubber bumper is a good idea
Cons:
  • Worked for about 9 months, then the connector began to act spotty
  • It became difficult to maintain obtain or maintain a connection
  • The special funky and delicate USB connector that manufacturers seem to be so fond of now was just not making good contact anymore.

LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series review

There's little mistaking the LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series , thanks to its eye-catching orange rubber bumper. You can find it in three capacities – 120, 256 and 1000 GB – although the latter is currently reverting to spinning disk technology instead of the solid-state flash tech in the...
Pros:
  • Good performance
  • choice of interfaces
  • very tough
Cons:
  • Unsubtle colour finish
  • disappointing small-file performance
  • expensive
