For a mid-range smartphone, the LG Optimus One rocks features that makes it worthy of competiting against all the big names. It's good looking, easy to use and endlessly entertaining, so if you're an Android newbie, this could be your perfect handset!

LG Optimus One
The LG Optimus One feels like a better device than LG's GT-540 Optimus. We prefer the design and we like that the buttons are to the point, unlike the Huawei Ideos, which goes a little overboard on controls.
Pros:
- LG's tinkering isn't too aggressive
- Android 2.2
- smartphone features at an affordable price
Cons:
- Low resolution display
- camera performance isn't anything to get excited about
- flex in the display centre means the capacitive display behaves more like a resistive one

Time was when smartphones were always high-end handsets. But as economies of scale help bring prices down, Android's open option has made it appealing to a wide variety of manufacturers and it's adding smartphone goodies to some very modestly priced handsets.

LG Optimus One P500 review
A budget smartphone that offers some great features, the LG Optimus One P500 is well worth a second look. Unlike some other cheap handsets, it runs Android 2.2 Froyo rather than 2.1 Eclair.

LG Optimus One in-depth review -
Smartphones no longer require a fat wad of cash in exchange for snazzy email, web and app features.
