Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Who said that epic and expansive fantasy RPGs had to have subpar gameplay? For as much as I absolutely adore games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 and Skyrim, gameplay in those titles simply didn't live up to the amazing standards set by their superb settings, narratives and quest structures.

I hate Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Not only has it drawn my attention away from a certain Bethesda RPG, it raises a number of significant questions. Why must an expansive world immediately mean simplistic and… I hate Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Fantastic action and combat; Interesting world to explore; Plenty of variety and customization

Repetition in quests; enemies; and loot; Fairly cliche RPG story; narrative; Some minor technical issues

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning sort of flew in under everyones radar, however those who have been keeping tabs on the fantasy RPG title since its announcement by 38 Studios will know the title blossomed from an elaborate MMO to a more self-contained introduction to the universe of Amalur.

This game is amazing, but sadly all the Skyrim fanboys are flocking to every review site they can to hate on this gem. I absolutely LOVE this game. The combat is crisp and satisfying, and does require a lot of skill to fight enemies later in the game.

Even the greatest role-playing games aren't necessarily known for their great combat. They're frequently praised for their ambitious worlds, their involving stories, and the element of choice. But when you talk about your favorite RPGs, it's not often that the action is what you talk about first.

Top-notch combat with a real punch; Fantastic; flexible character advancement; Some great-looking creatures; Extensive world with tons of stuff to do and lots of monsters to fight

Generic story and characters; Generic world; Generic quests

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

Having poured many fevered hours into the release version of Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning I can now ask you not to judge it entirely on its weak, wonky demo. Have a read of my review, and then mix the two experiences together to create a potion of critical insight +3.

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning – Review (PS3, 360, PC)

As a lover of RPG's I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game when I was asked to review it. Published by EA Games, developed by Big Huge Games and written by acclaimed author R.A Salvatore the pedigree was undeniable so would it live up to my expectations?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Progression also leads to better weapons, armour and other equipment. Unfortunately, this leads to the old RPG conundrum of inventory – what to keep and what to dispose of. Since you can't keep everything with the limited inventory space, gamers will either be constantly running back and forth to a...

The tale follows your created character who overcomes the notable handicap of being dead. After choosing your sex, appearance, and race (one of four with differing initial stat bonuses), you are unceremoniously dumped into a pit known as the Well of Souls.
