Kindle Paperwhite 4 32GB (2018)

The Kindle Paperwhite 4 retains some favourite features, and introduces some cool new ones. It's a winning combination!

Why change a winning display?

The display on previous Kindles has always delivered crisp and laser-quality text, so it's no surprise to see the same winning formula on the Paperwhite 4: 1448 × 1072 px, 6-inch E-Ink Carta touchscreen offering 330 ppi pixel density.

A smoother look

The smooth glass front and slim-line design make the Paperwhite 4 a very cool Kindle to look at. The thinner design also means this new Kindle is slightly lighter than its predecessor, coming in at a very easy-to-hold 182 grams.

More water resistant

One of the biggest improvements in the Paperwhite 4 is the water resistance. The IPX8 rating means this device can withstand immersion in 2 metres of fresh water for 60 minutes. Reading on the beach, by the pool, or in the bath, is a much less fraught affair thanks to this higher rating.

It’s grown a Bluetooth

Another new feature in the Kindle Paperwhite 4 is the Bluetooth module that lets you listen to Audible audiobooks.

You wanted more storage...you got it

There were lots of requests for the 4th generation Kindle Paperwhite to have increased internal memory or offer different versions based on memory size. Your wishes have been granted! The 8 GB version allows you to download thousands of ebooks, or some 30 – 40 full-length audiobooks in standard quality, while the 32 GB version gives you virtually unlimited ebook storage, and the ability to download at least 150 Audible audiobooks.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

The Kindle Paperwhite takes a lot of what we love about the more expensive, high-end Kindle Oasis and brings the core features into a more affordable package. This is a must-have ereader if you're after a way to read ebooks but you don't want to spend over $200 or £200.

Waterproof design; Audiobook integration; A great reading experience

Plastic design; Limited color options; Still uses microUSB

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

Thanks to a sharp display and fast performance, Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite is the best ebook reader you can buy for the price.

Affordable; Sharp, bright screen; Improved performance; Excellent interface; Cloud-based storage; Vast ebook store.

No adaptive backlight; waterproofing; or audiobook support.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

The Kindle Paperwhite is a great addition to the Amazon e-reader stable, with the same impressive battery and e-ink screen but a handy light added to the touch display. But there are a few niggles around the interface and Amazon eco-system, and we wouldn’t say 3G support is worth the extra outlay.

In-built light; e-ink touchscreen; battery life

Unintuitive interface; tied into Amazon books eco-system; expensive for 3G

Still fizzing, popping and burning bright, the improved Kindle Paperwhite is the winning formula made even more impressive

Kindle Store is unbeatable; Fantastically sharp; easy-to-read screen; Insane battery life; Light; comfortable to hold

Pageturn/PageFlip stutters; Some ghosting

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

The Kindle Paperwhite gets an HD screen, and while it isn't as big an upgrade as you'd think, it's a welcome addition, incrementally enhancing the Kindle reading experience.

Amazon has improved on last year's excellent Paperwhite e-reader with the sharper, higher resolution screen found in the step-up Kindle Voyage; A smattering of new features enhance Amazon's already best-in-class content ecosystem.

The HD screen is an upgrade but doesn't make a huge difference; an AC adapter isn't included (just a Micro-USB cable for charging). The ad-free version costs $20 more.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

Several reviewers have said that the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is the best E-Ink reader on the market and I agree, with a few caveats. Not everyone wants the same things: some of you may prefer ePub for its greater openness (you can buy books from more sources), others of you may want a card slot or...

Excellent E-Ink display that's sharper with good frontlighting; Slim and light.

No expansion slot; no hardware page turn buttons.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 32GB B07741S7XP review

Amazon has finally commercially released one of the few e-readers in the world that let you read in any circumstance. The company has been actively developing their new Paperwhite for over six months and it will hit the USA market on October 26th.

High Resolution; Expansive Ecosystem; Good Parental Controls; Handles PDF’s Well; Home Screen is Upgraded from Prior Models; Best Demonstration of Glow Technology Found in e-Readers; Lots of International Support

Locks you Into the Amazon ecosystem; Does not read EPUB; Special Offers Costs $20.00 to Remove
