JBL Link 10 Voice-Activated Bluetooth Speaker Review

JBL has now entered the market of smart speakers and introduced their new range of products, the Link 10. In the past few years, there has been a growth of devices such as the smart speakers since a large number of companies started stocking voice activated and hands-free audio units for consumers.

JBL Link 10

For just $20 more than the Google Home, the JBL Link 10 offers a much more compelling Google Assistant-equipped package. It's portable, waterproof, and more powerful than the Google Home, all while keeping every Google Assistant function intact.

Google Assistant support; Portable and rugged build; Bluetooth connectivity; Powerful for its size

Distorts on heavy sub-bass; Short battery life

JBL Link 10 Review

You don't need a Google speaker or phone to use Google Assistant. The voice assistant is making its way to third-party speakers, starting with JBL's Link line. The JBL Link 10 is the company's smallest Google Assistant-powered smart speaker, a $149.95 cylinder that's portable, waterproof, and also plays music via Bluetooth. It isn't the most powerful voice assistant speaker out there, but its modest premium over the $129 Home provides a slew of compelling upgrades and better performance than Google's non-portable alternative. Design The Link 10 shares a similar tapered barrel design to many of JBL's more traditional portable Bluetooth speakers. It's a 6.6-inch-tall black cylinder that measures 3.1 inches across, with grille cloth wrapped around most of its body, with the exception of a small black rubber cut-out on the back holding Power and Microphone Mute buttons and a five-LED battery indicator. The top and bottom of the speaker are capped with black plastic and rubber, and hol...

JBL Link 10 review: Portability is nice, the bass is better

With the Link 10 and 20 JBL leverage their strength in the portable speaker space to deliver a product that sounds great and pushes the smart speaker category forward as a whole - even if it trips up on some of the finer details of that push.

Portability; Waterproofing

Lack of sleep mode

JBL Link 10 review: A voice-enabled wireless speaker that's easy to take with you

One of the great things about both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice-assistant platforms is that they're both very open. It's easy for third-party companies to make compatible smart home devices that work with both of them. In fact, companies can also make their own smart speakers to compete directly with those manufactured by Google and Amazon.

While the JBL Link 10 may not deliver as rich sound (or have as much battery life) as the Link 20, it's still one of the better voice-enabled portable Wi-Fi speakers out there.

The Google Assistant-enabled JBL Link 10 has Google Chromecast built in and can be linked to other Link and Chromecast speakers to create a multiroom set-up; It delivers good sound for its size, is fully waterproof, and has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Slow startup time; some distortion at higher volumes.

2017 saw a lot of traditionally speaker manufacturers jump on board the smart speaker train. We had Google and Amazon test the waters first but their speakers were smart first and speaker second.

The smallest in JBL's latest line of Link smart speakers, the JBL Link 10 is a portable speaker that lets you take the convenience of Google Home along when you are away from home. Just earlier this year, the Google Home was officially launched in Singapore.
