For the computer which I built last year (total £560) I decided to choose this i5 processor from Intel being a top mid range CPU. It's not too expensive and will suit most computer users looking to build or upgrade their PC. - Who's this CPU for? - Someone who wants power without paying too much.
Fast; better than some i7s; can over clock; will last a few years before update
Quite expensive; requires new hardware
Bought this at launch, and I've had it at 4.2GHz since then (It went higher to 4.6GHz, but I figured I'd leave some headroom since I didn't need any more performance). Runs surprisingly cool on air, and it's just great.
Intel Core i5-2500 runs very well on Asus P8P67 motherboard with Corsair Vengance memory. Good customer service assistance from Misco.
Great CPU, junk cooler. I recommend that you buy it with a aftermarket cooler at the same time. Then let memory express guys put it all together for you for free.
Powerful
Stock cooler is garbage; I seen people say both ways on other reviews so I went with the stock one.
Although I wasn't expecting much for general computing, the i5 2500k surprised me in CPU intensive tasks and applications, such as open-world games for example. I found it to be much faster in Microsoft's FSX, and I haven't even overclocked yet. Great CPU for the money!
I built up a computer with this processor 3 years ago and it is still not possible for reasonable money to buy a processor that beats this. With a new i5 text seems you win type 10% in processing power, so it's hardly worth the upgrade if you sit on such a golden oldie.
Great product, suitable for my needs at time of purchase rigging out a new gaming system, still working great so no complaints, would highly recommend.
Ready for the new year? CES is starting and everyone is out to show the best of what they have. For some companies, this can make or break them. Advertisement and investment opportunities run rampant for the new guys, while the old juggernauts just give people more to drool over.
New Sandy Bridge Architecture; Blazing Fast Cache Speeds; Intel HD Graphics 3000; New AVX Instruction Support; Improved Productivity; Intel Quick Sync; InTru 3D; Improved Turbo Boost; Fully Unlocked (CPU and GPU
One year later we find ourselves in a similar situation. CES is upon us and once again, Intel has launched another exciting line of processors for 2011. Codenamed Sandy Bridge, the 2nd Generation Intel Core Processor Family represents the "Tock" in Intel's "Tick-Tock" development model.
