Joe brings us his impressions on Horizon Zero Dawn, out now for PlayStation 4.
PC version update: Horizon Zero Dawn's sprawling open world is laden with mystery. Futurist tech of a distant past lay buried as beast-like machines roam the surface of a new world where civilizations thrive as hunters and gatherers living off the land.
Complex and thrilling combat; Imaginative enemy designs; Expertly blends natural and technological elements; Impactful character development
Inefficient user interface; Barebones melee mechanics
I like Horizon Zero Dawn much more than anything else Guerrilla Games has done. This game, for me, is miles better than the Killzone franchise. Sony’s trying hard to push Aloy, the hero of Horizon , to the forefront as their next big character. They should.
The expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn retains the same charm as the main game while exploring a new story, environment and more.
Across a vast and beautiful open world, Zero Dawn juggles many moving parts with polish and finesse. Its main activity - combat - is extremely satisfying thanks to the varied design and behaviors of machine-creatures that roam its lands, each of which needs to be taken down with careful...
Horizon Zero Dawn review – an epic adventure A few blockbuster debuts throughout gaming history have had a surreal, uncanny power to them. You know it when you feel it: a certain magnetism pulling you in, that can’t-stop-thinking-about-it quality.
So let's say you skipped my gushing about the game above and now you're wondering, is this yet another great PS4 must-own exclusive? Absolutely and without question. It crafts a wonderful, fully realized and explorable world, and an interesting story that's worth seeing through to the end, if just...
Horizon Zero Dawn is epic on almost every level that is not only well crafted in terms of mechanics but beautifully designed.
For the first 20% of Horizon: Zero Dawn the game felt to me like a Far Cry game. Not Far Cry Primal, because Horizon didn't omit dinosaurs in some ludicrous effort to pander to the concept of realism.
During the first 5 or so hours of Horizon Zero Dawn , I was drawn in but not necessarily captivated. The game felt solid as an iron forged spear, but the magic wasn't there that would cement this title into the upper echelon of games I hold dear. However, time has a habit of proving people wrong.
Incredible storyline and narrative | Huge open world | Jaw-dropping visuals and art design | Strong protagonist and supporting cast | Great voice work | Combat is frantic; varied and engaging | Environmental storytelling is fantastic
UI can be overbearing | Open-world has a lot of "traditional" activities that are sometimes a bore | Soundtrack is a bit lacking in certain places
