Horizon Zero Dawn is a tremendously fun and epic experience. It's one of those titles that has its failings but the good is so overwhelmingly good I was prepared to let them slide. If you enjoy open world role playing games with dynamic combat I could not recommend this more.

Note: Review was conducted on a PS4 Pro using a 4K TV. The air is thick with anticipation. The hunt is on, and the Thunderjaw is going down. Best to set up some Tripcaster lines and hope they damage this massive beast that is one part machine, one part dinosaur, and all parts terrifying.

Horizon Zero Dawn looked both awesome and odd from the moment it was announced at E3 2015. Here was a game set in a world where robots had replaced all of the animals while humankind was still living in caves. It looked like Transformers crossed with Clan Of The Cave Bear.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is epic on almost every level that is not only well crafted in terms of mechanics but beautifully designed.

For thirteen years, Guerrilla Games have been tied to the Killzone IP. I'll never hide the fact that I'm not a fan of Killzone. It also left me with a perception of Guerrilla that was all wrong. I'd come to believe they couldn't make anything other than a generic FPS.

Incredibly well realized open world with a host of meaningful content; Aloy is one of the best characters in gaming with an excellent story; outstanding personality and perfect growth; One of the best looking games to date; showing exactly what the PS4 can handle

Some side characters are just sat in the uncanny valley and could have done with a little extra work

A Post-Apocalyptic Masterpiece

The post-apocalyptic setting isn't exactly virgin territory for games these days. Big-budget AAA titles like Bethesda's Fallout series and Naughty Dog's The Last of Us are amazing examples of how to do the post-apocalypse justice.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Review

Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of those rare games that actually feels like a AAA title. The level of polish and care that has gone into the game echoes throughout. It's an incredible journey worth undertaking, worth every moment you spend with the game.

"Horizon is a truly special experience, and it's one that even non-RPG lovers need to have." ? 2017 Sony Interactive Entertainment, Guerrilla Games. All rights reserved.

Refreshingly original setting; likable cast; vast open world; great mixture of gameplay elements; and a genuinely enjoyable story

Some technical mishaps; repetitive boss fights; and a bad fast-travel mechanic that can sometimes spawn you directly in front of enemies

Horizon: Zero Dawn (PlayStation 4) Review

Horizon: Zero Dawn follows a young girl called Aloy, who is introduced while still just a baby, being taken care of in a Lone Wolf and Cub style by an older man named Rost - both with ties to the "Nora" tribe, but neither actually part of it.
