Full HTC Vive Pro kit up for UK pre-order for an eye-watering £1299

Although the Vive Pro was released back in March, you could previously only buy the headset. You'd then have to purchase motion controllers and base stations separately. The only problem is its price.

HTC VIVE Pro Virtual Reality Headset Upgrade

If you can afford it. It's amazing quality, very comfort, easily adjusted for glasses, 2K O-LED display, built-in earphones, and well balanced on the head. Takes what's already good with the original HTC Vive and makes it's so much better. So much clearer and sharp readable text, etc.

HTC Vive Pro Review

The HTC Vive Pro is the most technically impressive tethered VR headset we've tested, but it doesn't offer enough over the standard model to justify the steep increase in price. The HTC Vive has been aging gracefully over the last two years, but there's room for improvement in terms of its audio and display capabilities. That's where the Vive Pro comes in. This virtual reality headset has sharper screens, high-quality built-in headphones, dual outward-facing cameras, and a more comfortable and secure design. It's better than the Vive in every way, except for one major flaw: Its $799 price tag doesn't include the base stations and motion controllers it requires to function. A bundle is available for an additional $300, but that means you're spending more than $1,000 before even considering your PC, which better be pretty powerful if you want to use the Vive Pro. Headset The Vive Pro looks like an overbuilt, navy blue version of the original Vive. It has the same general shape, with a rounded, pock-covered visor marked with a series of reflective nodes for the external sensors to pick up. The visor is now equipped with two cameras instead of one, for outwar...

The Vive Pro's name and $800 price (headset only) tells you exactly who this VR headset is for. It's not for newbies looking to dip their toes into the expansive world of VR. It's not for anyone who doesn't have a gaming PC with at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX480 graphics card.
Pros:
  • Super comfortable • Comes with built-in headphones • Streamlined cabling • Sharper displays
Cons:
  • Super expensive • Need to buy controllers and lighthouses separately

So much fun!

I have been having so much fun. I waited a month for this but it was well worth the wait. I haven't played with the previous equipment but the tracking works very well. The shells for the 1.0 work on these controllers as well from my experience.

HTC Vive Pro review: VR elevated in every way… especially the price

The Pro is a definite improvement, but it's only a v1.5 stop gap until the truly next-generation VR devices start to appear and an unfeasibly expensive one at that.

HTC Vive Pro review

While resolution will surely win the lion's share of the recognition, HTC has made a number of fantastic design choices on the Vive Pro that rival the resolution in terms of importance.
Pros:
  • Improved visual fidelity
  • Built-in headphones
  • Gradually improving game library
Cons:
  • Price isn't absolutely justified
  • Jitteriness with all non-new hardware
  • There's still no must-own title

HTC Vive Pro review: More luxury than landmark

The lack of significant differences between the experiences you get out of this and the regular Vive leave the Vive Pro looking more like a luxury product than it is a landmark one. The HTC Vive launched two years ago, it seemed like a side-bet from the Taiwanese tech company. Back then, virtual reality was as much an emerging idea as much as it was an emerging market. However, if their current fiscal condition continues to deteriorate, the Vive may well outlive their smartphones. It hasn’t taken long for the formula for what a modern, consumer-ready VR experience looks like to take a more solid shape - due in no part to the impact and popularity of the original Vive.
Pros:
  • Best-in-class display resolution
  • Versatile ergonomics
Cons:
  • Disappointing headphones
  • Relies on DisplayPort
