HTC Evo 3D

NB: For the time being, there aren't any 3D-compatible games for the Evo 3D.  HTC has, however, promised a free update for all customers before the end of this month, adding the following games: Spiderman The Sims
Pros:
  • Overall display quality is very satisfactory with great brightness
  • Glasses-free 3D display works from several angles
  • Very good audio
  • Great at picking up signal
  • Sense 3.0 and responsive user interface
Cons:
  • 3D could be taken further: why no 3D Sense
  • Not many multimedia options and HTC Watch is expensive
  • Battery doesn't last long if you use a lot of 3D
  • Display has poor contrast ratio

HTC Evo 3D

Before we begin, a small disclaimer. The CNET Australia team is as cynical about 3D on portable devices as you are, but 3D isn't all there is to like about this handset. In some ways, the shape and feel of the Evo 3D is an about-turn for HTC, whose handset design has been leaning towards a more...
Pros:
  • Solid smartphone experience
  • 3D is great when it works
  • 1730mAh battery is sufficient
Cons:
  • No HDMI port
  • Struggles with 1080p videos
  • Limited multimedia file recognition

The phone is fast and responsive when handling any task, but also comes with a size penalty. It measures 65mm wide by 126mm long by 12.05mm thick and weighs a hefty 170g. Ultimately, unless you're going to be using the 3D regularly then you'll find a number of other phones that are equally powerful,...

Seeing 3D on your phone

The Evo 3D is a well-made phone that has great specs and lives up to its reputation of being HTC's flagship phone. However it does take a step back in some areas - despite having a blazing fast processor, the camera is limited to taking just 720p videos (both in 2D and 3D) unlike other phones that...
Pros:
  • Nice large screen
  • fast processor
  • smooth performance
  • regular 2D photos look good
Cons:
  • Short battery life
  • touch-based buttons easily activated
  • limited to 720p HD recording

HTC Evo 3D review

Overall, the HTC Evo 3D is good, but not great. The design is strong, but bulky; the screen is above average, but not excellent; the 3D functionality is interesting, but at the end of the day, it feels more like a gimmick.

HTC Evo 3D

The HTC Evo 3D is most definitely in possession of a neat party trick, but it's not enough to make the phone a must-buy. Still, if you're about to upgrade and you don't mind putting up with poor battery life to get glitzy 3D, then it's worth a look.
Pros:
  • Glasses-free 3D
  • large, 4.3-inch screen
  • runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3D photo and video capture
Cons:
  • Bulky and heavy
  • poor battery life
  • 3D effect can't be switched off

HTC Evo 3D Review

At Rs. 36000, the HTC Evo 3D will only appeal to those who really want a 3D display in their phone. We were impressed with the overall performance of the device, however, it has an excellent 2D display that outshines its 3D counterpart.
Pros:
  • Good build quality
  • Dedicated key to switch between 2D and 3D modes
  • Higher-res display good for reading text and browsing
  • Sense UI feels snappy with more RAM available
  • Good battery life
Cons:
  • Disappointing call quality
  • Touch keys are over-sensitive
  • Display lacks the punch with black levels
  • Dual cameras are too far apart for good 3D close-ups

HTC Evo 3D mobile phone review

The HTC Evo 3D has one distinctive feature and the clue's in the name. There are plenty of good HTC smartphones out there, and unless your heart's set on 3D, you'd be better off with the likes of the Sensation.
Pros:
  • 3D may be a gimmick, but it's mostly good
  • Sharp 4.3in screen
  • Great Sense UI.
