Google Pixel 4a: The Pixel 4a is a fabulous smartphone: compact, lightweight, streamlined and very reasonably priced
Amazing camera, Refined software, Cheaper than Pixel 3a at launch
Shorter battery life than rivals, No 5G (yet), No IP rating
Coming soon - the Google Pixel 4a 5G! But will it be bigger and better than its predecessor?
Some early reports suggested the 5G version will be an XL version of the Pixel 4a, with a larger screen than its 5.8-inch sibling. However, recent leaks suggest the 4a 5G will share the same size screen and body. Maybe the recent leaks have been manufactured to create some marketing buzz ahead of its release.
What will be different is the processor. The 4G model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chip that doesn’t support 5G. The most obvious choice for the Google Pixel 4a 5G will be the Snapdragon 765G which is more than capable of powering that much-desired 5G capability. It's also being suggested that the Pixel 4a 5G will also have a capacitive fingerprint scanner.
Even if the Pixel 4a 5G ends up being the same size as the Pixel 4a, there are rumours of a larger battery, which will be needed with a new chip and 5G modem on board. And leaked renders hint at a second camera as well...as well as no headphone jack. However, this could well be an oversight given the headphone jack is part of the Pixel 4a. All rumours and speculation should be replaced with concrete facts once the device is released with the next few months.

While it's a shame that picture and sound quality haven't been upgraded, the iPhone 13 was great in these regards and the iPhone 14 is, too Excellent display Admirable headphone performance Solid build quality No upgrades to picture or sound Familiar design Notch is still present
The Pixel 3a debuted at Google I/O 2019, and it was closer to budget smartphone nirvana than any phone in the US that came before it. That was, until Apple responded with the iPhone SE .
Price In America, this is a lot of phone for $350. In fact, I see no reason to buy any currently on sale Android smartphone that doesn't cost as least twice as much as the 4a., Camera This phone uses the same sensor and optics as the Pixel 4 (which were the same as the Pixel 3, etc.). You can tell.
Soft touch plastic It greases up almost instantly, just like the Nexus 5 (one throwback that hasn't aged well, IMO)., Auto-brightness Google thinks my issues are relatively isolated, but I've had consistent issues with the autobrightness freaking out.
Surprisingly nice design with lots of screen; Incredible results from just a single camera; Amazing price with more storage than the Pixel 4; Stellar battery life;
Performance can be pokey at times; No color or storage options;
The Pixel 4a is one of the best phones you can buy right now. For AU$599 you get an Android phone with the best single lens for still images on any phone, all-day battery life, a compact design, and guaranteed three years of software updates.
A much better buy than the normal Pixel 4, the well-priced 4a packs in an amazing camera and solid battery life with the promise of three years of software support.
Great display; Superlative camera for stills; Affordable;
No waterproofing; No wireless charging; Plain design;
Spending four figures on a new smartphone never feels exactly sensible, but in 2020 it seems positively profligate. Enter, then, the Pixel 4a, long overdue by all rights and intents, but still turning heads by virtue of Google’s camera chops and a $349 price tag.
Aggressively priced, Camera rivals flagships, Solid performance and battery, 3.5mm headphone jack
No wireless charging, Not waterproof or dustproof, Bland design
Not everyone wants the latest or biggest phone that can take fantastic photos in near darkness. What they do want is something that can make and receive calls and take the odd photo or three and browse the Internet while out and about for things like when will that bus or train arrive and possibly...
The excitement around the Google Pixel 4a - and the iPhone SE 2020 for those committed to Apple's ecosystem - leads me to feel like a real shift is taking place in the smartphone business.
