The Google Pixel 3 XL is the company's best realisation so far of Android hardware and software working together in harmony. It also happens to have the best ever smartphone camera. Not bad. Here's the full review
Reviews for the Google Pixel 3 have been overwhelmingly positive, with one expert saying "it's the best Android smartphone you can buy". Let's find out why!
The Pixel 3 is smaller, lighter and more compact than most smartphones, with many tech experts pointing out how comfortable it is to handle, how easy it is to hold one-handed, and how nicely it fits into your pocket.
The Pixel 3 says goodbye to Google's usual aluminium and glass construction, and adopts a classy all-glass design. If first impressions count, this is the phone for you!
The OLED screen delivers a higher contrast ratio, most evident in low light and dark conditions, while the 2,260 x 1,080-pixel resolution is super-sharp, with excellent colour saturation, and the option to revert to a more "natural" display if preferred.
The cameras on Google smartphones are some of the best you can get. The Pixel 3 is no exception! New features include Top Shot, which takes frames before and after your picture and suggests an alternative shot to what you actually captured: Super Res Zoom gives you better detail while zooming: and Night Sight greatly enhances the quality of low light shots.
The Pixel 3 features regular and wide-angle lens for all selfies and portrait mode shots. An integrated algorithm will remove any distortion caused by the wider lens.
A great example of the wonderful AI tasks in this smartphone! When you receive a call, on-device speech recognition will transcribe the conversation from the caller (who is calling? why they are calling?) so you can decide whether to pick up, hang up, or mark as spam and block.

While the Android ecosystem comes with a plethora of devices from an always-increasing number of manufacturers, brands like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, LG, and a few others get pretty much all the love.
When Google hardware chief Rick Osterloh introduced the Pixel 3 last week, he didn't utter the word "Android" a single time. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are Google phones. They swim in a sea of Google data and promise to use Google's machine learning to make everything better: photos, annoying spam...

The Pixel 3 is the latest smartphone from Google, following on from the success of last year's Pixel 2. There are a number of new features, many of which are of particular interest to photographers. Like the previous versions of the phone, the camera is at the heart of much of Google's marketing.
We've definitely taken a look at our fair share of smartphones over the past few years and have definitely noticed, along with everyone else, the trend towards bigger phones. While smartphones, in general, are slowly getting bigger, bigger isn't always better.
Outstanding camera; especially Night Sight; Feels like a solid; well built smartphone; Crisp; bright display; Great performance; Gesture navigation is quick once you get used to it; Monthly security updates; Unlimited online photo storage for two years; Decent sound quality; Includes USB-C to 3.5mm...
No microSD card slot; Average/boring design (that works; Very occasional performance hiccup; Included headphones uncomfortable and mediocre; Top speaker isn't as loud as bottom; Like other flagships; pricey; No headphone jack
It may not be a step change in performance, but this is an excellent Android phone nonetheless

Average audio quality; No 3.5mm jack
Android is the world's most popular mobile operating system with many smartphone makers putting their own spin on things with custom overlays such as Samsung's Experience launcher and Huawei's EMUI .
For the third year in a row, Google has released its own-brand smartphone under the PIxel label, in a choice of two sizes, to try and put into physical form its vision of what a mobile phone should be – a direct, Google-ified, Android rival to the iPhone .
Google aces the camera again; Screen is big and beautiful; Pixel Android and speedy updates
Did you notice that notch; Battery life is unspectacular; No in-screen fingerprint reader
Let's get the elephant out of the room, I am no fan of a notch, that's why I got the smaller pixel. Also because I have used a series of big phones, from Note 5 to Note 8, I miss the compactness of smaller phones.
