Google Home Review: Has the Echo Killer Arrived?

Google has made the smart speaker race interesting with Google Home. It can do many of the same basic things as Amazon's Echo can, yet it costs less and has more visual appeal. The Echo delivers better sound, and it connects to far more smart devices, but you can expect Home's add-ons to increase...
Pros:
  • Integrates with your Google tools
  • Controls Google Cast-enabled devices
  • Booming bass
Cons:
  • Limited add-ons at this point
  • Lacks balanced sound
  • especially on vocals

Google Home Review

Google Home is fun device that excels at answering questions from the Google knowledge graph and integrating with Google services and products. Is it better than Amazon's Echo? Ultimately that'll be down to personal preferences and the services you need.

Works well...sometimes

I would still consider this a novelty item over being terribly useful. Questions must be phrased the correct way and there have been many things that Google Home cannot help with.

Google Home review: the smart speaker that answers almost any question

Google Home is an excellent entry into the burgeoning smart speaker race that's revving up between the big US technology companies. Amazon's Echo and Alexa have a head start, but Google's Assistant is highly capable in many ways, but strangely half-baked in others.
Pros:
  • great understanding
  • can answer lots and lots of questions
  • good sound
  • small
Cons:
  • variable volume makes control difficult
  • can't always hear you
  • not much good for a non-Google user
  • privacy concerns

Surprisingly useful

I've been watching the Home since it's launch. I'm an early adopter and love android and Google products. But with the feedback since launch, I'm glad I didn't plonk my money down for it.
Pros:
  • Quickly access all of Google and the net with your voice
Cons:
  • Needs an sound equalizer BAD! Too much bass

Bought for my husband for Christmas. Neither one of us are techy. But the set up is a breeze and it's been a blast asking Google questions. He replies to me as a male and to husband as a female. I especially like asking him to play music, really nice sound, we now use it as a means of stereo

Google Home

The Google Home wasn't the first smart speaker on the scene, but don't let that put you off. While the Amazon Echo family of devices is now into its second generation, Google hasn't bothered to update the Home's design; the recently added Google Home Mini doesn't really count.
Pros:
  • Great design
  • Decent sound
  • Reasonable price point
  • Conversational assistant
  • Easy setup
Cons:
  • Limited smart home compatibility
  • Speaker isn't very loud
  • Needs to be plugged in at all times

Google Home review: A better voice assistant than Amazon Echo?

Does two decades of search experience give Home the upper hand over Amazon Echo? In terms of search results, yes. But is it the better product? Not always. Home might be better looking, but it's not as well-rounded... yet.
Pros:
  • Good-looking design will integrate anywhere around the home
  • Touchpanel controls
  • Future potential is great
  • In-depth conversational and search-based results
  • Supports up to six users
Cons:
  • Less third-party app support than Amazon Echo
  • Assistant doesn't sound as good as Amazon Alexa
  • Microphone pick-up limited when music is playing

It was only a matter of time before Google came out with something to compete with the Amazon Echo: After all, Google too has deep experience with both voice commands and search. Indeed, one of the things we like best about the new Google Home hub is how it responds to conversational inquiries --...
Pros:
  • Tasteful design
  • Access to Google's massive knowledge graph
  • Google Assistant is conversational and context aware
  • Chromecast integration has the potential to be a killer feature
Cons:
  • Speaker quality is only so-so for music
  • Limited third-party app support compared to Amazon
  • A handful of expected features aren't available at launch
