GoPro Hero 6 Black
According to the market buzz, this is a BIG step up for the Go Pro. How big? Let's find out in this buying guide.
QuikStories With a Happy Ending
Download the free Go Pro and Quik mobile apps and take advantage of QuikStories, where you can send footage to your phone and let the app automatically edit it into the breath-taking video. Much of the buzz around the Hero6 Black is around this feature.
Twice The Performance
Much of Go Pro's "big step up" has to do with 4K60 and 1080p240 video, capable of delivering twice the performance of its predecessors.
A Sharper Image
The Go Pro Hero 6 Black also promises the best image quality ever, thanks to a brand new GP1 chip which has been optimised with this Go Pro model in mind.
Steady As It Goes
Smooth, stable footage really enhances the viewing experience, and the Go Pro Hero 6 Black delivers there as well, with what they call their most advanced video stabilisation yet.
It's Faster As Well
With 5 GHz Wi-Fi, copying video and photos to your phone is a much faster experience: 3 x faster offload speeds to be precise.
Low Light Is Alright
Another improvement in the Hero 6 Black is enhanced image quality for both video and photos in low-light.
Tougher Than Ever
These upgraded and updated features are housed in a tough and strong body. As a Go Pro is often used in and around water, you'll be pleased to know the Hero 6 Black is waterproof up to 10 metres.

GoPro HERO6 Black
The GoPro HERO6 Black is the most powerful GoPro to date. It's an update to last year's HERO5 Black, and comes with a host of upgrades and new features. Perhaps the most exciting new upgrade is the ability to shoot 4K video at 60fps, along with Full HD at 240fps.
Review: GoPro Hero6 Black
In these heady days of 4K drones, superhero VR games and watch-phones, action cams can seem a bit old hat.
GoPro Hero6 Black review review
- Superb video quality
- Image stabilisation works really well
- Loads of mounts and accessories
- Auto-editing software is useful
- Some potential codec frustration
- Battery life quite short when shooting 4K
- Doesn’t support Bluetooth mics
GoPro Hero6 Black review
It's safe to say the Hero6 Black is the best action cam GoPro has made. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one for you though. The new shooting modes are excellent, particularly if you're shooting for the big screen or have a penchant for dramatic slo-mos. But they don't come completely without cost. You'll need some recent laptop or smartphone hardware to edit the clips and they do take a bigger toll on battery life than full HD shooting. Even if you don't need to shoot reels of 4K, though, the Hero6's improved image stabilisation, dynamic range and low light capabilities make it a tempting proposition over the cheaper Hero5. If you want the absolute best action cam around, and are prepared to pay the £100 premium over its competition, this is it.- Superb video quality
- Image stabilisation works really well
- Loads of mounts and accessories
- Auto-editing software is useful
- Some potential codec frustration
- Battery life quite short when shooting 4K

GoPro Hero 6 Black
The GoPro Hero6 Black looks just like the Hero5 Black. It's the same small size and still waterproof to 10 meters (33 feet) with the same ports, controls, battery and same size touchscreen on back.- The GoPro Hero6 Black has groundbreaking electronic video stabilization for the category, a long list of resolutions and frame rates to choose from and overall improved image quality
- Its faster Wi-Fi makes mobile transfers a little less painful
- It's pricey at $500
- £500 or AU$750 and all those extra features and faster performance don't do battery life any favors
If you look at the GoPro Hero 6 , it's nearly impossible to tell it apart from the Hero 5 , even on close inspection. The older, silver GoPros used to have the model number marked in black text on the front .
- Improved stabilization
- Large selection of slow-mo options
- Greater manual control of exposure
- Upgraded image processor
- Pricier than the Hero 5 at launch
- No update to the design
- File compatibility issues on slow-mo videos

If there's one brand that's synonymous with action cameras, it's GoPro . The company has completely dominated the market, with arguably its most important year-to-date being 2017.- Easy to use
- reliable
- great video quality and shooting options
- voice control works well and mobile apps are first class
- It's a bit pricey
- touchscreen can be fiddly
- low-light photos need improvement in auto mode

Last year GoPro unveiled the Hero 5 range which brought huge design changes – such as a waterproof body – and image quality upgrades in the form of video stabilisation.
