Excellent picture quality at great price
Wanted a go pro for a while, my bother recently purchased the same camera. I was so impressed by the go pro 5 Session I decided to purchase one for myself. Was really easy to set up and after a short charge I was filming away picture quality is really good.

Recommended! No reason to buy Hero 5 black. Many fear the poor battery life on hero5 session without good reason. With GoPro Hero5 Session you can easily connect to an external charger that costs a few hundred pounds and you have longer battery life than Hero 5 Black.

GoPro Hero5 Session Review
The GoPro HERO5 Session is odd. In fact, it looks boring. One lens, two buttons, and 1" cubical dimensions. It's not exactly your textbook recipe for 4K video, but this little sucker is a hell of a camera. Yes, better action cams exist, but for the size, it's a workhorse.
Pros:
- Up to 4K at 30fps
- Image stabilization
- Water resistant to 10ATM
- Voice commands
- Good battery life
Cons:
- No display for previewing/reviewing media
- Does not float

As we explained in our review of the GoPro Hero 5 Black , the action camera is not only a worthy inclusion in our gift guide series , it can also be used for business too. But if the $569.95 flagship edition of the Hero is a bit rich for you, there's a smaller, cheaper alternative: the $459.95 GoPro...

GoPro Hero5 Session
GoPro's Session camera got off to a rocky start. The tiny cube-shaped shooter -- the smallest the company had ever made -- received praise for its design while simultaneously being bashed for middling video quality and too few features for too high a price.
Pros:
- The GoPro Hero5 Session is a big improvement in video and photo quality from the original Hero Session
- Additions like voice control, electronic video stabilization and USB-C help justify the $100 price difference
Cons:
- You'll have to connect to a phone or tablet to see what you're shooting
- The built-in battery means that once the battery is drained, you'll have to stop to charge or connect to a power source to keep recording

Review: GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session
GoPro is the first-if not only-name most people think of when it comes to action cameras. It's not just because the company conquered the market early, but also because its cameras have remained the best and most widely used for a long while.
Pros:
- Both cameras are waterproof without cases
- Excellent touchscreen on the Hero5 Black, finally
- Voice controls are neat
- Best in class image at the resolution you'll use most
- Hero5 Session is much improved
Cons:
- GPS doesn't do much yet
- Recording indicator on the Hero5 Black is too dim
- Cameras are not as sharp in 4K

GoPro Hero5 Session
GoPro launched a smaller, simpler action camera last year in the Hero4 Session . Simplicity meant it lacked the ability to record 4K, or even 2.7K video. The new Hero5 Session changes that.
Pros:
- Records 4K footage
- Excellent video quality for the size
- Waterproof without a case
Cons:
- No viewfinder
- Awkward controls
- No external mic support without an adapter

GoPro Hero 5 Session review: Size doesn't matter
Last year's GoPro Hero 4 Session was a small, barebones action camera. It was so simple, in fact, that it didn't even have the fancy 4K video recording of its bigger, more expensive counterparts.
Pros:
- Video recording at max 4K resolution
- Wind noise reduction
- Discreet
Cons:
- Lacklustre still image quality
