Garmin Forerunner 55 review: Bringing much more than the basics
Garmin takes the Forerunner 45 and supercharges it with great features from its pricier Forerunners that make it a much smarter running companion at a good price.- Bucket load of new running features
- Added pool swim tracking
- Full Connect IQ support
- Largely same design as Forerunner 45
- No mapping features
Garmin Forerunner 55 GPS smartwatch is now only £129
A serious fitness smartwatch at a silly price
Disappointed - Looks like Female/kids watch.
Studied all the running watches on the Garmin site, purchased the 55 for a replacement of my 235. Had it delivered only to discover the images online are deceiving, this is a small watch maybe suited to females and teens. Garmin should brand this as a 55S.Cannot comment on the quality or value as I returned to purchase another model. Disappointed.

Garmin Forerunner 55 review
The Forerunner 55 is an entry-level running watch that's thoughtfully designed for those who are starting to take their workouts more seriously, or taking a step up from a basic fitness tracker. It looks very much like its predecessor, the Forerunner 45, and we would have preferred to see an upgraded screen, but it's a design that works well overall, and is particularly suited to new users. The new workout suggestions are also a great addition for beginners, as are the recommended rest times at the end of a workout. There are a few drawbacks (mostly due to the lack of screen real estate for showing detailed data), and the differences aren't enough to justify upgrading from the Forerunner 45, but it's a great entry point to the wonderful world of running watches.- Workout suggestions
- Recovery time suggestions
- Well designed controls
- Limited data visible during workouts
- Low-res display
- No on-watch sleep widget
