Field review: Fujifilm XF 70-300 F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR

The Fujifilm XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR is a versatile option for X-mount shooters that offers more reach than the company's 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 offering while being considerably more affordable and hand-holdable than the 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 optic. It offers high resolution imagery across the frame at all focal lengths with minimal chromatic aberrations, but bokeh can suffer from onion ring and cat's eye artifacts. The lens focuses quickly and silently, with minimal focus breathing, which is great for video shooters. It also pairs nicely with the optional 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.

Sports, nature and wildlife shooters. Video shooters will appreciate the minimal breathing, silent autofocus and solid image stabilization.;

Portrait shooters and bokeh aficionados looking for the highest quality out-of-focus regions;

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Review

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR ($799.99) is an appealing lens for X system photographers who've long sought an alternative to the excellent, but expensive, XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR. The 70-300mm is lighter too, optically excellent, and works with a teleconverter. It's a better lens than the older XF 55-200mm, and our Editors' Choice.Lightweight and Weather Sealed The XF 70-300mm is priced $100 higher than the XF 55-200mm, a reasonable premium. The 70-300mm is weather sealed, a feature important to outdoor photographers and missing from the 55-200mm, and it's compatible with the XF teleconverters. The only mark against the weather protection is a lack of anti-smudge fluorine—you'll want to use the included lens hood to prevent stray raindrops and fingerprints from hitting the glass. At 5.2 by 3.0 inches (HD), 1.3 pounds, and with a 67mm filter thread, the 70-300mm is a decidedly easier to carry than the XF 100-400mm (8.3 by 3.7 inches, 3.0 pounds, ...

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR is the telephoto lens to get for an X system camera. It nets excellent results, is weather sealed, and won't break the bank.

Excellent optics; Focuses quickly; Dust and splash protection; 1:3 macro focus; Teleconverter compatibility

Defocused highlights can show onion ring effect

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

Looking at what this lens actually offers the Fuji user, at a reasonable cost, it extends the focal length to a very desirable 300mm, whilst maintaining overall quality very well up to 200mm and keeping that crisp central sharpness right up to 300mm.

Excellent sharpness, well maintained throughout range, Low CA, flare, distortion, Highly effective OIS, Weather-resistant, Excellent handling, Beautiful bokeh, Reasonable cost, Focusing to macro distances, Compatibility with 1.4x and 2x converters

Edge sharpness at 300mm falls off, Switches on lens can be accidentally moved

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

Apple's latest non-Pro iPhone is superb - it's just that it's strikingly similar to last year's effort.

Still an incredible smartphone, Brilliant battery life gets a bit better, Excellent camera system gets a bit better

Last year’s Pro hardware, Wireless charging slow by modern standards, No USB-C; it’s now well overdue

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch

FUJIFILM FUJINON XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens - Brand New review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some
