very nice, and compact lens

The lens is great. Very sharp and hardly any distortion. The one thing that could be improved is the cap that comes with the lens hood. The cap is supposed to cover the lens hood whenot using the lens. The hood however will not stay on. It keeps falling off even when the lens is in the camera bag.
Pros:
  • Lightweight

Versatile wide angle lens

I bought the lens as part of the Fuji X Pro + 2 lens deal. I achieved some very pleasing landscape and architecture shots with sharp images and stong colour contrast. I did detect slight colour fringing in some images. Wide aperture very good for low light shots
Pros:
  • Colour Contrast
  • Durable
  • Lightweight
  • Low Light
  • Sharp Focus
  • Strong Construction

Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R (Fujifilm) - Review / Test Report

The Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R is certainly a cool little lens for the Fujifilm X-Pro mirrorless system. After all small is beautiful these days. However, performance-wise it is a bit of a mixed bag.

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R has some marks in its favor. It's quite small and light, covers a classic wide field of view, gathers a heck of a lot of light, and focuses close enough for most shots you want to capture with a 27mm equivalent lens.
Pros:
  • Light and compact
  • Wide angle coverage
  • Opens up to f/2
  • Very little vignette
Cons:
  • Omits dust and splash protection
  • Weak edge performance, even when stopped down
  • Focus hunts in AF-C

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R Review

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R is showing its age, but is still a good choice for X shooters who prefer lightweight lenses. The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm F2 R ($599) isn't a new lens. It was one of the first available with the X-Pro1, and is still available close to six years later. It remains a popular choice thanks to a very compact design and a classic wide-angle field of view. But it omits the weather-sealed design that you get with newer lenses, and struggles with sharpness at the periphery of the frame. If you don't mind a heavier (and pricier) lens, we recommend the XF 16mm F1.4 instead. But if traveling light is a priority, and you're a fan of this focal length, it's still worth a look. Design The 18mm is quite small, just 1.6 by 2.5 inches (HD), and light at 4.1 ounces. The barrel is mostly metal, but the bayonet mount for the included lens hood is plastic. The hood itself is mostly metal, and feather light. Using it detracts from the pancake nature of the lens, but protects the front element from picking up stray fingerprints, improves contrast, and reduces the possibility of flare. If you wan...

Not as good as the 35MM

Wanted to love it due to the small form factor, reminded me of my Panasonic GF1 with 20MM pancake lens combo, but did not have the image quality i was looking for. If small size matters, go with this lens, if your looking for quality go with the 35MM.
Pros:
  • Small form Factor
Cons:
  • Slow focus

Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R review by PeteD

This lens seems to get a bit of negative press. Yes the image quality is only very good if not stellar. Some CA and the corners don't reach the levels of the centre. And yes the 35 f1.4 is optically better but given the 18f2 is small and fast it's a lens that sits on my xe1 a fair amount.
Pros:
  • it's small and it's fast
  • Image quality is good
Cons:
  • some ca

Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R

It's construction is good and so is it's size. But it's probably the worst Fuji lens when it comes to image quality. Corners are soft even stopped down and the lens suffers form field curvature.
Pros:
  • small
  • &quot
  • special&quot
Cons:
  • -bad
