Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The Fitbit Sense is about more than just getting in shape—it’s about getting healthy. I get a lot of pitches for gadgets claiming to offer better sleep, health, and fitness, and many of them feel like high-tech snake oil. For every ailment, there seems to be a tech-based solution.

Attractive, Long battery life, Comprehensive fitness/health features

Small app store, No Spotify music storage

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

This tracker measures stress. Sort of.

Very good battery life (up to a week). Beautiful screen. Easy-to-navigate app and easily customizable. Works with Google Assistant as well as Alexa. Fitbit Premium still rules. It can measure blood oxygen (SpO2) levels and electrodermal activity for stress. Sensors are accurate.

New SpO2 and stress-management tools are less helpful than they sound. Optical O2 sensors bug out occasionally. Too many weird operational hiccups for a premium-priced tracker.

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

When Fitbit announced the $329.95 Sense last month, it was being hyped as the company’s most-thorough health tracking device yet. With new features in the form of stress management (with electrodermal activity monitoring), skin temperature, oxygen saturation while you sleep, and an upcoming Food and...

Sleek design; Bright; colorful screen; Intuitive interface; A ton of granular metrics; including SpO2; heart rate variability; breath rate; skin temp; and EDA; Nice integration with mindfulness training

Lots of bugs and performance hiccups; Solid-state button is fiddly; Some things just don’t feel as fully integrated as they could be; Battery life is cut in half if you turn the display to always-on mode

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The early Fitbits were remarkable for how little you needed to interact with them, but the Sense flips that script. By piling on sensors and features to seemingly compete with Apple, the Sense has added as much complexity as capability.

Nice design and band swapping mechanism; Loaded with next-gen sensors and tracking capabilities; Very good battery life

EDA quick scan takes too long; Fitbit OS is less intuitive and more frustrating than ever; Heavy reliance on Premium makes the price higher than it is

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

Fitbit's premium, pricey Sense smartwatch puts a focus on your well-being with the ability to measure and monitor your stress, heart rhythm, skin temperature variation, and blood oxygen saturation.

Attractive design with large; always-on color display; Excellent battery life; Measures blood oxygen level; Features an ECG app; Robust stress management and sleep tracking features; Supports Amazon Alexa; Fitbit Pay; Spotify

Expensive; Touch screen responsiveness could be better; Band release latch can be accidentally triggered; Small third-party app selection

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

The Fitbit Sense delivers on the basics, but it's clear some features need more work....

High-end; premium design Improved quick-release straps (Mostly) accurate GPS and heart rate sensors Skin temp sensor provides useful data Detailed sleep tracking ~6-day battery life

Google Assistant; Bluetooth calling unavailable at launch Bad inductive button SpO2 tracking requires dedicated watch face EDA and ECG sensors needs refining Fitbit OS still needs work

Fitbit Sense Lunar White/Gold FB512GLWT review

In the era before modern smartwatches, Fitbit's name became synonymous with wearable fitness trackers. Full-fledged smartwatches have become the norm as consumers have demanded more and more from wearables, and Fitbit stepped in with the Ionic and Versa smartwatches a few years ago.

Display It's sharp enough, gets bright outdoors, and Fitbit does a good job of hiding the bezels; Meaningful Fitbit OS improvements More reliable notifications, better shortcuts, always-on display, and more; Battery The Sense lasts the better part of a week (without always-on display).

Sensors The EDA and SpO2 sensors are annoying to use, and I don't know that I believe the numbers; Music Music storage only with Deezer and Pandora Plus, controlling playback on a phone requires extra steps; The "solid state" button It's so much less easy to use than a real button.

Fitbit Sense Review

If you're like me, every headache or stuffy nose these days is accompanied by a strong case of COVID-19 paranoia. With its premium Sense smartwatch, Fitbit is giving you many of the features you want and need to monitor your health amid a global pandemic. At $329.95, it's the company's priciest wearable yet, but it packs sensors to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood, as well as changes in your skin temperature, stress level, and heart rhythm, in addition to the robust sleep and fitness tracking features Fitbit is known for. Its selection of downloadable apps pales in comparison with what's available on the Apple Watch, but it offers some welcome smartwatch features including Amazon Alexa support, Pandora and Spotify music controls, and Fitbit Pay mobile payments. If you're in the market for an attractive wearable with long battery life and a focus on health and wellness, the Sense is worth a look. Price, Design, and Specs At $329.95, the Sense is Fitbit's most expensive we...
