I've spent a few days with the open beta test of this game. As the title suggests, this is a trading game. You get to sail ships from Europe to Africa, Arabia and India to bring back colonial goods.
It's a nice idea for a game, and I like the large scope of it, but not one aspect is complex enough to hold my interest. Once you have set up a couple of trade routes to bring in a steady cashflow (which is totally out of proportion to the expenditures in the game - you can quickly run up more money...
Hit the high seas! Hit the high seas with a blend of strategy, economics and straight out warfare as the head of a major trading company in the 17th century! East India Company is one of those games that seems to be aimed at a niche market.
Nice blend of strategy and trading; micromanagement is possible; but not essential; combat can be fun for a while; controls are nice and straightforward; with a good menu system
Graphics veer wildly from great to poor; combat isn't very involving; very niche title
East India Company
East India Company is a mercantilist real-time strategy game set at the dawn of the global trade age. As governor of one of the great European East India companies, you must compete against others for dominance of the lucrative markets of Africa, the Middle East, and especially India.
Satiates your inner accountant; Diverse commander abilities; Big empires and big mustaches
Tactical combat won't float your boat; Multiplayer campaign lost at sea; Combat auto-resolve favors the AI
I am suddenly interested in the price of tea in India. I guess that's what happens when you are a merchant on the make in the 17th Century. The price of goods, the upkeep of boats, and incessant worry over the approaching retirement age of one of my finest captains - they all occupy my every...
Great naval action; streamlined interface; intuitive gameplay
Repetitious trading; port attacks are overly simplistic; strategic gameplay needs more chrome
For $10, it's difficult to complain with what is on offer with EIC:P, but the unexcusable issues regarding performance make this a cautionary purchase.
The East India Company was created in 1600 and... I already did the history lesson in the preview. Nitro Games' East India Company is a strategy game set in the era of Empires with the European powers conquering Africa and the Indian subcontinent, with companies being set up to manage the new trade...
It frequently surprises me just how broad the range of concepts are that get made into full fledged games now, especially on the PC. It probably shouldn't anymore, but if I was asked, I would probably list concepts for new games for several hours before getting to 'realistic simulation of the Indian...
